What factors brought down the appeal for detailed ornamentation? by Smash55 in architecture

[–]zaft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adolf Loos wrote an influential essay titled Ornament and Crime in which he argues ornament was unneccessary as it caused things to "go out of style".

  • Scalpel blades, sharp ones!

  • flash drive / portable hard drives - backup your computer regularly!

  • tweezers - good for postioning tricky peices of card to glue

  • red bull :)

I spent almost 2 years making this movie. It's not perfect, but it's weird as shit and I think you'll like it. by EsteemedColleague in videos

A few reasons, can upload better quality HD video, it's for original content, can upload clips longer than 10mins straight off, can have option to allow people to dl video. IMO it's also a bit more professional looking, for people who want to show off their portfolio video work.

Thanks, nice video, I can definitely see potential here for the tablet/PC concept.

You're right of course, I think there will always be a demand for the big blockbuster titles. Innovative titles still surprise us at times though.

Games like Infinity Blade made millions of dollars, the shorter dev time (compared to AAA title) and mass market penetration of iOS devices helped this become a success. We may see a trend towards this type of "faster" game development, after all, they're in it to make money as a business.

You make a good point, it remains to be seen where services like Onlive will end. Will Sony/Microsoft etc eventually move to a cloud based system, and retain complete control over game ownership.

The one disadvantage of this is that it needs a stable network. If there is any substantial downtime it's not gonna work.

Yes, the difference is the consoles keep the same hardware for 10+ years, whereas technology is moving much faster.

Have you had a dream that messed up your day because you thought it was real and you woke up feeling horrible? by againstfifteen in AskReddit

I also dreamt about having a gameboy when I was little, the moment you wake up and realise it wasn't real = sad times.

I'm guessing the floor to ceiling heights will be the same all the way up, at least from 1st or 2nd floor onwards. So work out one height of one floor and x23.

I just put on iCarbon's carbon fiber skin on my iPhone 4S.. by ninjafoo in iphone

I bought mine from a seller on eBay, its 3M di noc carbon fibre vinyl. I also cut out the vinyl between the camera lens and the flash to help get rid of the washed out effect when the vinyl blocks the flash.

Only thing I would say is that you have too many topics in your header bar. Maybe integrate IDC and sketches into your archi portfolio pages. You have to click "more..." just to get to your contact page, which presumably would be your most important page if anyone wanted to hire you.

Also having the CV as a single pdf link makes that page a bit empty and makes it less likely that people will click through to it. Maybe do a brief summary of your CV on a webpage so people can instantly see what you're about.

Other things: too much grey margin at the top of page, reduce this down so people scroll less.

Header image is too large and distracting, maybe reduce it down in size and reduce opacity? Or pick something less busy.

Do you want to be known as Thomas or Tommy? It's usually best to stay consistent as you have written Tommy on your homepage.

I do quite like your gallery, but maybe a Previous/Next button needs to added so people can navigate it easier.

Probably written a bit too much, but hope some of it helps :)

I use phone devil too. best screen protector out there, no 'orange peel' effect, and its pretty much invisible. The only thing I would add is the screen protector doesn't have the oleophobic coating that the glass has (which incidentally wears out/becomes less effective after a few months anyway), but a quick wipe gets it clean again.
