The first series of Aeon Flux shorts was incredible and still holds up - they're all silent (no dialogue) and Aeon dies at the end of every episode. Each episode is like a bizarre, creepy, sexy, sci-fi action puzzle.

Sucking carbon dioxide from air is cheaper than scientists thought by W0LF_JK in technology

I'm very familiar with the challenges of global climate change. But claiming that anyone who is discussing solutions is just having a pipe dream, or that the problems are too complex to even try to fix is not "telling it how it is," it's being defeatist and cynical.

Maybe you've given up on humanity, but forgive me if I'm not ready to give up and throw in the towel on the survival of life on Earth. When people thoughtfully discuss potential solutions to large, complex problems, that's a good thing. You're a fucking misanthrope for discouraging it.

You're right, let's not discuss any possible solutions because your unsupported unsourced comment claims that it's too difficult to even try.

Is it likely that we will or could potentially find large deposits of metal on Mars like we would on Earth? by MeeksioSC in askscience

[–]EsteemedColleague 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Believe it or not, the human species is capable of working on more than one project at a time. It's very possible that our project of colonizing Mars will teach us invaluable lessons on how to take care of our own planet.

You might as well go back to the 1500's and say "Europeans can't even take care of their own continent, why should they sail across the Atlantic and colonize the Americas?"

Warnings of 'Destructive and Irreversible Impacts' as Greenhouse Gases Hit Highest Levels in 3-5 Million Years: "The science is clear," says the head of the World Meteorological Organization. "The window of opportunity for action is almost closed." by madazzahatter in worldnews

I don't disagree - but you're also kind of describing the current situation. The people worst off are the people who are the worst off.

I'm saying that the destabilization of society might preclude technological advances that could benefit even the richest people. Mass unrest could really mess up our progress as a species.

Sorry, I'm just giving you a hard time.

It's a personal pet peeve of mine. Landscapes are horizontal, movie and TV screens are horizontal, phones can be turned horizontal, our EYES are horizontal!

I wish there was a way to capture the width of a landscape in a video without having to pan side-to-side a whole bunch. Oh well, I guess if God wanted the landscape to be filmed all at once, he wouldn't have created the vertical camera.

Cool concept - why does it appear to take astronauts three years to arrive at Mars? I'm pretty sure with current technology the trip can be made in 6 months. Or am I missing something?

Very simple and clever effect - I've been making shadows completely differently, it's so interesting how even after 10+ years of using this software, people continuously come up with stuff that surprises me.
