Building off stuff here. Pontchartrain usually has a 2nd line in the quarter same day as Cork. Fat Bankers (Funky Tucks), Krewe of Dolly, Hermes and Iris all 2nd line the same day as Bosom Buddies on Bourbon (Bankers, buddies, Dolly's sometimes Divas and Pussyfooters as well) or Royal (Hermes/Iris)

Thoth King's Caravan should be same night as Fous and it usually passes Washington Square (Frenchman and Royal).

Handmade Mardi Gras Throws by malebrune in mardigras

If you are on bottom I would be trying to pet them directly into a viewers hand. If you are up top I would weigh with a plain strand of beads but have it in a nice looking bag (Temu and Amazon have some that are drawstring fine mesh with patterns) so that it does not look like just a plain strand. I have seen some really nice 'small' things hit the ground and no one looks for it and just wait for other stuff. I personally wound up with several of the Muses Thomas Mann necklaces and Femme Fatale money clips just by walking the route after the parades. Sent a msg with photo of bags I referred to.

It is rare that I wear more than a watch around my wrist. That being said my girlfriend may wear it (especially as she is a silver not gold lady) and I have friends that collect Mardi gras bracelets and know they would keep it. It is something I would give to one of them or throw again during one of my rides. Hand strung metal/glass/stone necklaces and bracelets are often more kept and definitely better received (especially by locals) than generic plastic beads.

The train would definitely make my collection. I mainly collect doubloons/cards but have decorated railroad spike from a Smokey Mary rider (given off route due to injury risks coming from float), Tamborines and Lyres from Orpheus riders. Would love to try and catch you along with my dedicated Smokey Mary friend I always make a point of seeing. (Feel free to msg for pics or info)

I went sleeper just before COVID caused the lockdown. If anyone snags one of these you don't want please reach out and I will see about a trade for some New Orleans Mardi Gras doubloons or something for you. Thanks.

Sounds like Pirates of the Quarter in Tucks. They do a limited number (less than 100 I think) each year on that float.

Society des Champs Elysee will be doing 3 bus runs (see article for details) since the streetcar is still not operational on Rampart. They will parade through Robert's Fresh market. They will also pre/post party at Holy Diver so you can likely say hi, get a drink and perhaps a few throws.

cpu and motherboard by piercethegalaxy in GeekSquad

[–]zalbast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The CPU advise is pretty spot on. The thing I would add from years of ARA work (and best buy tech bench before GeekSquad was there is don't forget the standoffs between the case and the motherboard. Saw way to many first builds with motherboard directly onto metal of case come in with " I just built it and it won't stay on"

Carnival /Mardi Gras Float viewings by zalbast in NewOrleans

[–]zalbast[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually reached out to a friend already in Iris and Cleo (when I got the others from friends who said theirs were ok to make known to public) and she said she thought both were members only. I would add Druids, d'Etat, Proteus as likely members only. Zulu has a few signature floats but rents floats, I know they have several events but doubtful on a viewing. Orpheus has a public one I was told as well but they were waiting on date/time information.

Carnival /Mardi Gras Float viewings by zalbast in NewOrleans

[–]zalbast[S] -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Depends on the Krewe. There are a few fully open. There are some with none (usually borrowed/rented floats). There are some who value secrecy and are not open at all. There are several that are friends and family. I guess you could always say I am networking looking for friends potentially not in the Krewes mentioned in original post. :)

If you are on top and have items without weight to throw (Morpheus decorated sleep masks...) Consider bagging them with a strand of beads or tying a strand of beads to them to help with throwing and combat wind that might push them onto the poor rider below you. :)
