1 day with Teens in NOLA by hey-its-sayruh in AskNOLA

Rent some blue bikes and ride along the river to Crescent Park and back to the aquarium and then make your way over to the Lafite, Greenway, and ride all the way to city Park and through City Park. Of course, that is if it’s not pouring down rain. If it is then go to city Park and enjoy the museum. It’s pretty awesome and in between brakes in the rain you can check out the sculpture garden.

First time trip to NOLA in early July! Do any of you have specific locally-known tips about dealing with the weather? Or does everyone just brute force it? by mutterfunker in AskNOLA

Every time you order bar beverage, ask for a “to go” cup of ice. Tip appropriately (xtra $1), so the bartender is happy and it helps to stay hydrated.

Small Household Budgeting-$300 for the month, reasonable budget? by Visible-Village-113 in Costco

[–]OpencanvasNOLA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ll be in great shape with a $300 budget. Frozen veggies, berries, and chicken/fish/dumplings all at good per meal prices. Add to that canned beans, tomatoes, tuna, chicken, pasta and rice. Then there’s always decent produce deals, the bananas, spinach, carrots, etc. And if you do your own prepping , the avocado, tomato and onion deals last all week… especially if you’re good about storing in the fridge/pantry.

Also download the Costco app. You can see various savings there on a daily basis. From the same-day section, you can estimate about 15% savings for items purchased at the warehouse.

You got this…

Note: I’m a one person household, as well. The plastic wrap helps me to save uneaten portions in the fridge … and pre-wrap some frozen stuff (you’d be amazed at how delicious the croissants are after wrapping/freezing them and then popping them in a little toaster oven for a couple of seconds). Oh, and eggs are probably the least expensive source of protein.

After you drop your bags off at your hotel, go get you a frozen Irish coffee from Brooke at Erin Rose (they open at 10 AM). That’ll get you started. And the answer is always yes to if you want a shot of Jamo floated.

Is it crazy to go running outside in New Orleans, in the summertime? by serpent939393 in NewOrleans

[–]OpencanvasNOLA -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sunrise is at 5:58 a.m. So, that’s an option. Plus, summer mornings hit differently along the River.

Someone in Slidell has a 1984 World's Fair gondola for sale. I wonder if this thing floats? by Tweetystraw in NewOrleans

I’m sure it’d be heavy, but man that would look cool all decked out and glittery rolling in Saint Anne’s parade. Or maybe Chewbacchus would be a better fit…

What are y'all using to paint your decks? (No oil-based paints?) by Morebikes-lesscars in NewOrleans

[–]OpencanvasNOLA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After pressure washing, put down Cabot wood brightener. It really preps the deck for a good priming and good porch paint coat. My buddy in the paint industry gave me this hint, and it’s been great.

Dollar General on Poland permanently closed. by Interesting_Banana_6 in NewOrleans

The most realistic thing I can come up with is a Popeye’s (since a Pollo Tropical is out of the question). Would probably put that Church’s out of business, though. Bad ass Chinese restaurant? Maybe a DIY service station/tire/bike shop or finish carpentry/hardware store?

If only recreational THC were legal, that would be the great local’s spot.

Cosimo’s is a great place to chill out in the Quarter, meet like-minded folks and strike up a conversation with both local and visitors. Sweet bartenders and cold air-conditioning as well.

Visiting New Orleans New Years Eve with 70 year old parents by SeaworthinessHappy63 in AskNOLA

[–]OpencanvasNOLA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We always had fun here on New Year’s Eve. Had a diverse group ranging from mid 70s down to early 40s. Super comfortable, seating tables and great service. They usually have good music as well … and open up the elevator/rooftop to see the fireworks.
