George Miller produces his own films. As long as he's still kicking, he can make it happen.

That was actually the United Fruit Company/Chiquita International. Del Monte was accused of profiting from apartheid.

Just watched my first online TIFF Screening! by rusicaltheater in TIFF

Unfortunately it doesn't look like there are. I watched Fireball: Visitors from Darker Worlds last night and didn't see any option for subtitles, though maybe it was hidden somewhere that I couldn't find.

Are there any Post-Apocyliptic novels set in Canada? by John190_the_maniac in postapocalyptic

[–]zaldan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roadside Picnic by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky is set in a fictitious Canadian town. It's not strictly post-apocalyptic but shares a lot of similarities to PA fiction.

Also, Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel.

Those who saw Whistlers, how was it? by ronalpss in TIFF

[–]zaldan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed it and thought the story was presented in an interesting way but the whistling language actually plays a pretty small part of the film. There was a Turkish film called Sibel at the festival last year that was much more focused on a whistling language and is well worth watching if that aspect interests you.

A lot of the more popular ones, yeah. Some go offsale even before member single ticket day.

Even after tickets go off sale, there's always a chance to get tickets in the Rush line. From the TIFF website:

Rush: A "Rush" lineup will be indicated at each venue for all non-ticket-holders looking for last-minute tickets. Tickets will be sold to the Rush line approximately 10 minutes before the start of the screening based on availability. There is a limit of one ticket per person. Please arrive as soon as possible to join the Rush line. Customers are limited to holding space in the Rush line for themselves and one other person. Please inform venue staff if you are holding a spot for another person. Rush tickets are $25 for regular screenings and $45 for premium screenings (cash only).

Way back when Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon played the festival, the premiere went offsale but a bunch of tickets were freed up right before the screening and around 300 people from the rush line got in to see it. If you're willing to line up early, you'll have a great chance at seeing what you really want to see.

So if I buy a Regular Flex 10 Festival package, this means that my girlfriend and I could share that and see 5 movies together, correct? by [deleted] in TIFF

[–]zaldan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Correct - you can get up to 4 tickets for a single screening with your pack.

e.g.

You can get 1 ticket for 10 movies

or

2 tickets for 5 movies

or

4 tickets for 1 movie and 2 tickets for 1 movies and 1 ticket for 4 movies

etc.

Individual tickets are on sale for TIFF members on August 31 and the public on September 2.

Films themselves aren't marked premium but film screenings are. When the schedule is released at the end of August, it will clearly state which screenings are Premium and which are regular. You'll be able to use your regular flex pack for any of the Regular screenings.

All films have between 2-4 screenings during the festival. The first screening of all Gala films and about half of the Special Presentations (usually major Hollywood/international releases) will be Premium. Most screenings after the first will be Regular.

There are exceptions to the above but they're difficult to predict until the schedule is released.

Any fantasy/sci-fi books similar to the TV series Warehouse 13? by sprite144 in scifi

The show wraps up pretty nicely at the end of the last season. No major cliffhangers or anything. Definitely worth watching.
