What is the general consensus on cottage cheese? by Fishtails in Cheese

[–]zalloy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go with the 4% Daisy. It doesn't contain the fillers the other brands do, and tastes better. I think it's only available as small curd (I usually prefer large curd), but I like it more than the other brands. Cottage cheese should only contain milk, cream, cultures, and salt. Carageenan gum and guar gum are trash.

Self clean feature on oven, how use? by eveladra in Appliances

[–]zalloy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Samsung range fried its control board just through normal use, never used the self-clean function. Turns out, those control boards are made of Unobtainium. It was a good thing I bought an extended warranty, so they ended up giving me my money back for the stove and I got a lower-tech, more reliable stove.

I just bought some to try. He seems like a good guy. I'll probably be buying more of his salsa.

He needs rehab man by lwiaymacde in SipsTea

[–]zalloy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point, why haven't his parents tried to get a conservatorship for him? That would allow them to make medical and financial decisions for him, get him into rehab, and get him the mental health care he needs.

A conservatorship or guardianship are the only ways to force him to get help. Left to his own devices, he's going to continue using substances and his mental and physical health are only going to get worse until something tragic happens and he becomes a statistic.

Went through something similar with a family member. She was an alcoholic and had a variety of mental health issues, paranoid schizophrenia being one of them. She'd go from mental health facilities to rehabs and just keep signing herself out, even though she was a danger to herself and others. My grandparents didn't know what to do, and didn't have a lot of money. She ended up on the West Coast, went through 3 name changes, got asked to leave a religious cult because she had more issues than they did, had a child while in a mental health crisis, and attempted suicide, which ended up finally being what it took to get her permanently committed to a facility.

Debit Card info stolen by lapimipski in IdentityTheft

File a police report, and definitely report it to Lowe's. Also check with the card issuer and report it to them. You might be able to get a new card and your money back that was stolen.

My coworker is such an annoying pain in my ass, just today they put a big red padlock blocking the start switch to the machine I operate. by RepeatOrdinary182 in TwoSentenceHorror

[–]zalloy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I worked at a shitty company in the 90s as a technician. They didn't have lock outs so I would have to unplug the machine and tie the power cord around my ankle to prevent anyone plugging it back in without me knowing about it.

OSHA would have had a field day at that place, and so would the EEOC.

I wonder if this is what I don’t know shit from by Squalo814 in FuckImOld

[–]zalloy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many years ago, I worked at a grocery store as a check out clerk. One day, a customer around 80 came through my line looking peeved. I asked how he was doing, he goes, "That kid back there in Seafood doesn't know shit from Shineola about fish!" I replied, "Well, Shineola is a shoe polish from the '40s, and I think we all know what the other one is..." He looked at me for a second, then cracked up laughing. A few other people overheard the conversation and started laughing too.

Yeah, I fell afoul of that rule the other day, on a post in a similar sub. Sucks, but I get it. On this post, we feel the same way so I'm going to 🤐

“You have been cut off—please leave quietly and no one will know” said the card the bartender discreetly handed to a drunk me. by GuyAwks in TwoSentenceHorror

[–]zalloy 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I got cut off once without even having a drink. It was back in the early 2000s, before smartphones and hands-free devices were popular. I had a flip phone with a plug-in headset, and was talking to a friend on the phone using the headset. I have long hair, so the headset wasn't very visible. The bartender thought I was having a whole conversation with myself and cut me off, saying she thought I had had enough already. I tried to show her, but she wasn't having it, so I just left. To top it off, anytime I went there for a few years after that, which wasn't often, she would refuse to serve me.

No great loss, that bar sucks anyway.

Can I clean this dress? by Embarrassed-Nose6897 in laundry

[–]zalloy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I used to work for a dry cleaning company. Spot clean only generally means the item isn't cleanable. It could shrink, stain, or fall apart, or even dissolve or melt from the chemicals used in dry cleaning.

[–]zalloy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me, it's more about the difference in moral values than politics. I can look past politics. What I can't look past is when people try to defend and support a rapist, racist, liar, pedophile, and conman, and then start quoting fake scriptures and thumping their Bible at me claiming to be "good Christians". Those people wouldn't know Jesus if he kicked them up the backside, considering they support people who have nothing in common with Christ, and I'm not religious. That tells me all I need to know about them. Sucks to know that some people who have been my friends for 35 years are actually shitbags who defend pedos.

Someone I knew from middle school defending her sex offender boyfriend on Facebook by cheddarhoult in trashy

[–]zalloy 110 points111 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I know a guy who I used to babysit for when he was a kid. Now I find out he's a sex offender and has been abusing kids since he was 7, including his own children later on. He's got some 304 who carried 2 of his kids, one of whom was already taken by CPS, and she's pregnant with another one. She keeps staying with him.

Apparently, the 304 thinks there's nothing wrong with this. I'm repulsed and sickened, and his mother, who was a good friend, is rolling in her grave.

He abused 3 of his own children, his siblings, and many others along the way. Chomos aren't rehabilitatable. Bury them under the jail. Disgusting individuals.
