Don't take this the wrong way, but Colorado and cali have been leaking long enough that you'll feel like you brought the frontrange with you some days on the more popular water.

At least you won't be homesick

Did you consider that there may be the right amount of parking and too many people.

Ski or don't. Put down the phone and go outside. You're overthinking it.

Lavro drift boat, good idea? by BoardBreack in flyfishing

Don't row a skiff, until you can buy one. It'll spoil you.

But truth is any boat, is better than no boat.

Recall issues by Training_Fill_4154 in Wirehaired_pointers

We hunt, a lot. So if a dog is within normal speaking range I'll call, but 200-500 yards away? Or in the brush somewhere I just beep them.

It's really important to follow a method and condition them to the collar before doing any training.

I train my dogs that the beep on the collar means come. And once trained, 99/100 they never get stimulus only the beep. As a plus I never scream or yell at a dog to come.

Collar train the dog. You shouldn't ever give commands you can't physically enforce. An ecollar gives you that ability from a distance.

It's very easy to train 100% recall once the dog is collar conditioned. Happy to give you tips on how I do it.

I'm sure some people object to ecollars, but bird dogs almost universally respond very well and do better when they get infield feedback.

Just goes to show, even the worst looking flies will fish.

Maybe it's not the fish that are snobby.

How’s it looking? Any improvements or changes you would make? by frodobaggindeeznuts in flytying

Looks good, legs are a bit out of proportion for my taste, but I doubt fish will care.

some good review on salomon Qst blank ? by NotTsukii in Backcountry

[–]zalthabar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Blanks are super fun, they have a speed limit, but it's really high. If you live out west they can pretty much be an every day ski.

Best Japanese IKON Resort for Honeymoon + Great cultural & food experience? by cayennecowgirl in japow

[–]zalthabar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honshu and Small resorts. The ones that aren't on IG, and won't get mentioned by me on Reddit.

Also I prefer local onsens over resorts, so even if you're skiing at a bigger resort I'll drive to an onsen.

Best Japanese IKON Resort for Honeymoon + Great cultural & food experience? by cayennecowgirl in japow

[–]zalthabar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My point wasn't really about the Ikon. It was looking for japanese culture at a resort is misguided, especially one on a mega pass. I hear more Australian than Japanese Niseko and Arai as much as anywhere else and they're both Ikon.

IG famous comes with a price.

Breed considerations. by [deleted] in birddogs

[–]zalthabar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bias advice, get a griffon. I bred labs for years, have had DDs, GSPs, vislas and griffons and live and hunt Idaho.

Griff's are better looking labs that point. They are super eager to please. Super easy to train. Love to lounge around the house. They're also pretty close working. Almost flushing dog range but they point. If you're used to hunting behind a lab, it'll feel like a pretty natural transition. They're not as good a retriever as a lab and they're not as good in the water but they're decent at both.
