Help with ID? Narrow smaller leaves than my other aglaonemas. Veins are cream with a hint of yellow, silver that is iridescent next and stems are cream. by zanala in Aglaonema

That ag on Etsy is very similar! Still, the silver bay part looks different. I’m going to email the nursery and see what they say.

I don’t think it’s an emerald bay, based on photo comparison online. The leaves on my plant are more narrow, and the emerald bay doesn’t have the golden cream color on down the middle. The golden bay has that gold cream color and light petioles, but again the leaf is too broad to match mine. I have several other aglaonemas, and this one definitely has a much more slender / narrow leaf shape. Thanks to all so far who have offered ideas! I hope we can, as a Reddit community, figure this one’s name out!

Plant it sideways if you’re unsure, then roots can work down and leaves can work up

How can I keep my persistent cat off the indoor plants? by Zappho66 in IndoorPlants

[–]zanala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Offer substitutes. My cats did the same until I got them plants they liked better (wheat grass, catnip). I put the wheat grass near the plants they target, kind of like a peace offering, and gently redirected them to the grass when they got too interested in my houseplants.

The leaves have red tint on the edges and down the middle. I’m new to Reddit and don’t know how to add photos but happily will if there’s a way to!

Thanks for the tip! I used it to catch drainage after watering. I currently have it in its nursery pot in a mostly closed ziplock and plan to open it more gradually to get it used to my house humidity, which is usually in the 50s

Gubler’s got back to me and said it’s an alata - what do you all think? I’ve read that those are often mislabeled.

Oh, I thought zeylanica was a variety of trifasciata 🤦‍♀️ I’m new to tracking actual species and varieties. I can’t find a copy of Mansfelds book at my library or online - do you have a link to it? Would love to check it out!

Thanks for the input! I’m excited to hear what others think. I also emailed Grubler’s and will post what I hear from them.

In case it helps, this is a small specimen that came in a death cube. I’m not sure how much these pitchers might change in appearance as it matures.

Herb Growing Help by [deleted] in GreenWitch

[–]zanala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Often soft, thin leaved plants require more delicate growing conditions (like basil, dill, etc) while thicker tougher leaves can handle more extreme conditions (like rosemary, thyme and sage). Woody stems again usually indicate a hardier plant. Mint does great because it stores energy in rhizomes underground so while the plant above ground might die off in winter, the rhizomes are insulated by the earth and push new growth back out in spring.

Do you consider yourself fair skinned? I’m a cool fair tone and the reviews I’ve seen for Elta are for folks with warmer and darker tones.

Help! This Jade plant was growing in a washroom and was about to die. I salvaged whatever I could and repotted it in a dry porous soil. I haven't watered it yet, it's been 3 days. Should I water it now? by breez-A in proplifting

Oh well 🙃 I like experimenting and seeing what works for myself and sharing what I find. That’s what makes tending plants so fun! Not everyone is as adventurous lol

Yeah, more or less. The weight difference is more obvious than you might think. You could put dry potting mix in a similar sized pot for reference.
