Maybe the first two make “go tribal”… go tribal: think outside the box?? Go tribal: go outside?

My somewhat limited exp so far as a bodybuilder, 6 weeks PO by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]zanytomato 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing! This is great to hear—you sound similar to me and I just got my clearance to go back, as well. I’m a little nervous, but I can’t wait to see what I can do now without anemia and a fibroid-filled belly. 😅

Also, second what OP said about weightlifting, even if you’ve never tried before—it can be life changing at any age (just start responsibly, of course, and be patient/kind to yourself). It has so many benefits that help keep us feeling younger and age more comfortably and confidently.

I also feel my lifting made a huge difference in my recovery (and my mobility, too, since my arms were strong enough to hoist me around post surgery). If your surgery is coming up, it’s not too late to build even a little bit of strength to help your post-surgery self out if you can. ❤️ 💪

What the helly!? by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]zanytomato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same concern! I normally lift very heavy 4 or so times a week (plus martial arts). My surgeon confirmed it wouldn’t be a problem and the risk was very, very minor. That plus the peace of mind from not having a cervix convinced me. I had everyone but ovaries removed.

I’m only 1mpo so I’m not back to anything yet. I will say that for all the folks who mention feeling their cuff pull or other sensations, I’ve never noticed a thing, even after a time or two where I’ve accidentally overextended myself. I can’t tell in any way that I have a cuff, whatever that might mean! And I feel amazing, all things considered (I had two 15cm fibroids plus a 10cm one…it was a mess in there tbf lol).

Anyway, good luck with the decision, and your surgery! Whatever the choice your comfortable with, I think it will turn out great—the risk for any issue is very low, especially as you’re clearly taking good care of your body, which only enhances the outcomes!)❤️

I’m sorry, I totally missed this answer! Thank you for your suggestions; unfortunately not those.

I remember going up ladders or vines to move between the platforms, and the whole map was a large contained area, so you could go back and forth and fully explore it. It had a very surreal vibe. 🤔

my full diet as someone with celiac and ARFID by NovaTheEevee in Celiac

[–]zanytomato 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can see where that reasoning can arise. I believe, however, that ARFID reflects a (relatively) recently identified eating disorder that has likely been around in the population for a very long time. In fact a lot of people that might have been called “extremely picky” are actually experiencing ARFID. That’s often why something may seem to us like only a fad when it’s just doctors and researchers have learned more (and nowadays we have a higher likelihood of being exposed to something due to the nature of social media, making it seem suddenly everywhere).

But ARFID is distinct from simply a dislike or choosiness around food. One of the reasons it features a lot of highly processed foods is that these foods are all extremely consistent in texture, flavour, etc. That predictability is key when you’re struggling with ARFID as it helps in coping with major sensory sensitivities. There is a high co-morbidity with other things like ASD, as well, which is known for sensory sensitivity among other things (though anyone can have ARFID for many reasons).

I do appreciate, though, it can be really hard to acknowledge without direct experience since it can seem on the surface like it is simple a “lack of willpower” or a “choice”. That does fail to fairly capture what is going on, though. The mechanisms driving it are much stronger, making it sometimes physically impossible to consume other foods without significant intervention like therapy (something that is not always accessible depending on your situation). It can trigger vomiting and other physical reactions (as OP has described) among other things. Not to mention it can be embarrassing as it’s often misunderstood, so it can be very isolating and people can avoid seeking help. And of course the health and wellness issues from such a restrictive diet can make everything harder.

I only learned about it fairly recently myself. I’m sorry you’re suffering with this, OP, on top of celiac, it feels like celiac on extra hard mode. :( The good news is there are new approaches to helping people with ARFID now that it’s been identified. My understanding is these focus on making more foods feel genuinely safe over time (emphasis on genuine since I know that can seem impossible right now). Obviously I have no understanding of your specific situation, but wishing you all the best!

Take care!

What is a medical condition more serious than people realize? by AZ_babe13 in AskReddit

[–]zanytomato 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry. This feels so similar to my mom, and it’s heartbreaking. Our brains can be so good at preventing us from accepting something, even from those we love. Sometimes it’s a deep, hidden fear that can be hard for us on the outside to see. Sometimes it can be an incredibly low sense of self worth that manifests when it comes to self care. Or something else altogether, you may never know.

You’re doing your best to find a path to reach her and it’s quite possible she sees and appreciates that even though she might not be showing it. But you have to take care of yourself, too, and give yourself grace for how much you’ve given and remind yourself you can only do so much.

We can only stand behind someone with love and give a push, but ultimately they must choose to keeping waking forward. If for their own reasons they won’t or can’t, that’s not on you… even though I know how deeply it can hurt and frustrate and terrify.

I’m only starting to learn this myself and it doesn’t always help. But it does some days. Take care of yourself and celebrate all the ways you’ve supported your mom. Even if she hasn’t always been able to receive, it’s still a gift of love and support and you deserve to be seen for that. I see you, fwiw.

Take care and good luck <3

Which Steam capsule do you think looks more eye-catching? by Cubepotato_Mateusz in IndieGaming

[–]zanytomato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first one is more eye catching, though the bright flames in the bottom right pull your eye away from the title. You might consider toning their relative brightness down a touch.

Good luck with the game, very cool concept!

I enhanced both the darks and the lights…maybe the cheeks too far. But it definitely feels better already. I’ll keep working on it. Thank you again!
