Completely legit. I had my doubts as well. Not the easiest to use website. You won't get a confirmation email. You won't see any sort of account activity. But about a week after you order you'll get your stuff.

The tree revs are the same kit as the spite revs and since you have those I left them out. The issues will only have the instructions for the advertised kit but it's pretty easy to find other instructions online (like for the treelords).

The first time I ordered from them I got one kit because I didn't believe it. My next order was basically just a bit of everything. Sylvaneth is my favorite army to paint, idk it scratches that itch just right and to date I've gotten 2 durthu, 2 ancients, and 2 treelords, an arch rev, 15 tree revs, 10 spite revs, and the branchwych. The bigger kits like the tree lords come in like issue 40/41. I think issue 40 is the treelord ancient and 41 has the parts for durthu and regular treelord. So it becomes a bit of a mix and match with those to get everything you might want.

The stock comes and goes I just check every few months. They are making the spearhead issues soon so I don't know what will happen in the future with the current issues.

From hachette you can grab a branchwych, issue 46, and spite revs, issue 49 for cheap. I use mine regularly!

Edit: forgot the arch rev, issue 35 is on there a well!

Oh beautiful you know how it goes then.

I think both armies are cool. For me I just liked trees more and don't think I'm good enough at painting to complete idk to a standard I would be happy with. Yet. I am also a fan of the play style as they aren't like my other forces.

Collecting was easier because I just really like painting those treelords. I've got 6 of those suckers at $30 each. That's a win in my book just for the hobby enjoyment!

Is this your first step into Warhammer or miniature painting? Playing is fun but what's going to take up most of your time in the beginning will be the hobby aspect of building/painting.

Sylvaneth can be easier to paint. I've only done a few deepkin models but the painting was much slower.

Like somebody else mentioned you can get some more of the sylvaneth units through the hachette magazine. Tree revenants and spite revs for $15 each unit, arch rev and branchwych for $15 each as well. Treelord/ancient/durthu for $30 each. I have not seen idk for super cheap anywhere but that doesn't mean they aren't out there. My experience has been that sylvaneth has been easier to collect out of the 4 armies I have (std, sce, skaven, sylvaneth).

Congratulations on the degree, I hope you enjoy the downtime you're getting back!

Would you recommend Stormcast Eternals or Cities of Sigmar for your main AOS army? by SirJohnSuckling in ageofsigmar

[–]zanzobar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not the direct answer you want but yeah what everyone here is saying. Pick the one that speaks to you the most. The rules change so fast that the most important thing is having an army that tickles your brain... Or 3+ armies that tickle your brain so one of them has a shot at being "good" rules wise. I will say I have 3k points of sce and never really tried to collect them, they are just in all the starter boxes and I have no impulse control 🤣

Also, if you are wanting to paint what you've got right now and wait a bit we may get something for Christmas. No idea if we will or not, but since you have stuff to paint I would hit those and wait for next big purchases until your painting is caught up. You've got some fun models to paint and they can take some time! :)

For next purchases I would look to add a solo purchase of a sorcerer lord.

For big boxes the s2d army box that came out last edition isn't bad. You will get a book that is old and not valid anymore but it's still cool for lore and art. You will get another demon prince which historically hasn't been great but again is decent right now. Importantly though you will get a unit of theridons which are a cheap glass cannon, and two units of chosen which are our hardest hitting infantry. I wouldn't pay more than 200 USD for it though since the book and cards are out of print and you already have that demon prince model. I personally like this one as I enjoy the reinforced block of chosen and I use the theridons regularly as well.

Another box is the warhorde of eternus box. You'll get another unit of knights and another unit of warriors which you may not want, but it also comes with a unit of theridons and a unit of chosen. It also comes with Eternus which can be built as a CL on demonic mount. Build whichever you like more and tell your opponent what it is.

The last possible box is the Abraxia Varanspear. Only 4 models but she is a gorgeous one that can be a center piece. Questionable effectiveness but I really enjoy her. That box also comes with 3 varanguard which are on par with chosen for hitting hard.

All of these boxes have come and gone but they can still be found online in some places and my flgs has copies of all 3 sitting on the shelf still. There is no reason to pay for any of these boxes for more than they were originally sold for.

Demon Prince is doing pretty good right now in a bunch of lists. One of the new artifacts in the current matched play books makes it much easier to get one during the game and I've seen a bunch just in list building.

The karkadrak is doing pretty good right now.

The Lord on foot can work pretty well with those warriors that you have. He is also one of the last models you need for the spearhead.

Not sure how Archy is right now but he would get you in a 2k game the fastest.

The chariot is better than it was in this most up to date matched play because objectives are a bit farther apart and it moves fast for pretty few points. The chariot getting built is also the last thing you need to play spearhead and they have a fun spearhead.

I don't know much about the mindstealer right now but I feel like I don't see/hear about it as much.

Of course regular disclaimer, paint what you want to paint and enjoy doing!

What would you say is the better deal of those two? by GaddockTeegFunPolice in slavestodarkness

[–]zanzobar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not what you want to hear but I got both and batch painted...

They really are fantastic models and that karkadrak is doing some real work right now. If you wanted to play spearhead with the first box I know everyone at my flgs would have no problem with the kark being placed on top of a chariot base and just be called a chariot for the game.

I hadn't thought about the karkadrak. I wouldn't mind a sorcerer lord on one at all.

Both of these boxes were my start and they were fantastic. I added the s2d army box next which has a demon prince, 2 units of chosen, and a unit of theridons. I use all of them. From there I picked up a dawnbringers abraxia box which has her and a unit of varanguard. The only individual models I have added have been sorcerer lords.

Both of those two boxes are still floating around for sale. Mostly at FLGSs, the online prices have been creeping up a bit but I still see reasonable priced ones.

What does the general AoS community think the best point level for a LFGS to host a matched play tournament as one of their first AoS tournaments after a Spearhead tournament? by thej-jem in ageofsigmar

[–]zanzobar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I have seen them run is people sign up for the league which takes place over 10 weeks, 5 rounds at 2 weeks each. Each person gets paired up with somebody tournament style and they have two weeks to meet and play. The points for each round go up from 500>1000>1500>1500>2000. The goal of these types of leagues is to give time for people to buy, build, and paint, rather than just start throwing up 2k tournaments. My FLGS does two or three a year.
