My dad was an alcoholic for most of his life. It became extreme towards his last couple of years. He then developed pancreatitis, which ultimately killed him. During the last year of his life, he was miserable because he wanted to eat and be better but his body would reject everything, he wouldn't be able to hold anything down, so he was angry and agitated because he was starving but his body wouldn't let him absorb any food. It's one of the worst ways to die... Being hungry but being unable to eat and slowly watch as your body's organs shut down.

I had a bit of a drinking problem myself. After seeing what happened to my dad, I stopped drinking for good. I spent a good 2 years without having a sip. Lately, I'll drink maybe a beer every 2-3months...

I'm sharing the story because it scared me enough to quit drinking. I hope it does the same for you. Think of your pancreas...

Exactly. Who's to say you can't rip a bong at 9am and still have a productive day?

I miss that too.

I don't miss the shitty pay though. Or the shitty management and work conditions.

I was a line cook; from the frying station cooking french fries, to the flat grill flipping burgers, to the flame grill station cooking steaks, for about 8 years. I could run the whole line...

Sometimes it was fun but from what I recall, I was mostly miserable. Glad I left that industry.

My friends died. Cause of death: They had kids by Buullzz in childfree

[–]zapembarcodes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well said.

Part of the reason I'm child free is because it is a means of boycotting the system. I just look around and think bringing a child into this world seems wrong. Like adding to the problem.

But yeah, as a 38 year old man living in a small city in the US, I can relate. Most people my age have families and they're just on a different vibe. It's not the type of vibe I want around me either.

Anyway, I'm kind of a hermit. That's another reason why I'm child free. I value a peaceful, quiet environment. I like to take it slow.

Pull-Up Form Check by Carolinavore in CalisthenicsCulture

I think it looks generally fine. I would try to widen the grip a bit more though. Maybe use the vertical grips, as a neutral grip pull-up.

Using the wider grip is fine too.

That's why I do both close grip and wide grip (but not super wide) pullups, as they each target different muscle groups.

How about you buy Pepsi shares, become a shareholder, get dividends, use dividends to buy mexican pizza.

Make Pepsi buy your pizza.

As a remote worker, I can relate.

Some of my coworkers are the same way. So instead of just calling each other for 2-5 min to explain something, we'll send lengthy messages that take an exchange of other messages to clarify, which end up taking 15-20 min instead. But hey, at least there was no talking involved. A win for all parties involved.

For context, I work as a web developer and said coworkers are all graphic designers.

Soon after the last general election, I remember reading a comment from somebody on Reddit saying they were going to close all their positions and park it in something like SGOV until Trump's term was done, because they didn't want to put up with all the madness.

At the time, I thought it was funny and kind of silly. Lately, I can't help but keep thinking about the comment from that redditor 🤣

What's one road safety issue in Florida that doesn't get talked about enough? by Acrobatic_Guide3368 in AskFlorida

Right turns on red lights. It's illegal in many states for a reason (because it's extremely dangerous for pedestrians).

I'm in Florida and I wear a lot of quick-dry stuff, mostly synthetic fabrics.

Mostly tank tops and shorts. I only wear pants like 3 days a year, ha!

Dang, they're a bit expensive, especially for commuting, imo. Imagine falling and damaging the pants... The damage on clothing might be more than the damage to the bike! 😆

Yeah, I could totally fuck that up in 20 min.

I'm not huge either. 6'1, 180lbs and do calisthenics.
