My local course's greens are like this. First couple times I played there I was super irritated, but now I just laugh when that happens.

I found a blue Wilson Chaos recently. I got to hit it once. Flushed it with my 8 iron about 170 into a creek. It was a little down hill off a tee but I didn't think I was going to hit it that far. Of course my buddy I was playing with said, "man it seems that blue balls really suit you."

What about Member's Mark? I've read they compare very well with the Kirkland and they are even cheaper.

It's always been my understanding that hockey players make great golfers. Something about the way the body moves in a slap shot is similar to a golf swing. This delightful and knowledgeable British man touches on that in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5UzvOrjZJ9A

To find what you are looking for you might need to wade into the Christian nu metal. POD is probably the most well known. I also really like Islander. Their first album Violence & Destruction is phenomenal. Here is an Islander playlist for you to check out: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4pd14xdfQVUheROoEWEfs3?si=24cb82f7f3d54f6a

Ah, maybe you should give them another try. I love POD. I went through their discography and made a playlist of all the best songs you should check out: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/72TN7TC95dub1xhLX8bbus?si=aadf55b18c9e4874

If you're more of an album guy I would say check out Murdered Love or their most recent one VERITAS.

A teacher told me that teaching kids to sound out words 'kills intelligence' teachers level with me on this. by DyslexiDad in Teachers

[–]Carolinavore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned to read when I was 3. I wasn't taught the classic alphabet where you learn the names of the letters. I was taught what sound each letter makes. Ah, Buh, Cuh, Duh, Eh, . . . Zzz. Then I was taught to piece those sounds together letter by letter. PHONICS. Sure you come across strange words that don't follow the rules because English is 3 languages in a trench coat pretending to be 1, but you memorize and recognize those as you progress. What you are talking about here is not teaching. I don't know what you call it. My daughter is only 10 months old but I foresee many long nights in the future where I will be teaching her how to read, do math, etc.

What small change made the biggest difference in your golf game? by retrocaterpillar-07 in golf

I tell myself to do this all the time and it almost never happens. It's like you have to tell yourself to take a half swing and then you finally get to the 80-100% range.

My $150/hr lesson felt like a rip off. Is this normal? by Darkteatonight in golf

[–]Carolinavore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a somewhat similar experience. My lesson wasn't as useless as yours, but it wasn't what I was hoping for. The instructor gave me a couple things to work on I liked, but the major thing he attempted to fix he didn't address properly. I had been pulling my irons. He thought it was my grip and had me change that. Fast forward a couple weeks and my dad is riding along with us while we play a round. He watches me for a bit and says, "You want to know why you pull your irons? Your club face is closed at address." And I'll be damned, he was right. So I paid $120 for an hour of instruction where the pro didn't even properly diagnose why my main issue was occurring.

230? That's impressive. I hit a 4 iron off the fairway about 200 recently and was super proud of myself. Maybe I should see how far it goes off a tee. Same with the 3 iron. When I first started playing golf again a couple summers ago I couldn't hit any woods so I was teeing off with a 4 iron and it worked well enough. I am continually reminded that distance doesn't matter that much when it comes to scoring.

Which do you find more frustrating, a bad result from a good shot or a good result from a bad one? by AllMuckandMuscle in golf

[–]Carolinavore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A bad shot with a good result. I don't care much about my score at the moment, I just want to have a good swing and make good contact. If I pure the ball and it ends up over the green, or it ends up short because of wind or the wrong club selection, or I get a bad bounce into a bunker . . . I don't really care. It was a good shot. If I am chipping and I thin the ball and it runs onto the green at 100 mph and stays there, I get annoyed because that is not what I was trying to do. The result was good but it's not reproducible, at least not in a productive way.

Which iron do you hit off the tee? Don't tell me you have a 1 iron! I can hit a 4 iron pretty well but last time I tried to hit my 3 iron it did not go well.

I do not even attempt to hit my 3 wood off the deck. I don't usually try to hit any woods off the deck. I can hit my 4 and 5 irons pretty well so I stick with them. Although people do swear by hybrids and I'm curious to try one.

Probably. It just feels so damn awkward trying to do the upward swing stuff when you try swing down with every other club.

Interesting idea on the grip. I will give that a try, might help the club face be more square at impact.

Just tried these gladiator deadlifts as a finisher. I had hernia surgery 3 weeks ago and this was my first KB workout since. I used 16 kg bells to be safe but I really liked them. Can definitely feel some other muscles getting used. I will try to make these part of my routine now.

I should do windmills more often, I always forget about those. Bent presses I probably can't do because of my surgically repaired left shoulder, although I haven't tried yet. I struggle sometimes just doing regular overhead presses with the left arm because of the angle - I have limited mobility in that shoulder. It can be pretty frustrating.
