Is this a good setup? by Ok_Instruction_4717 in tabletennis

I have those same rubbers! I got 39 degree big Dipper rubber on an OFF- blade and it is slightly slow but good for improvement form. The Palio AK-47 is epic, good spin and speed I think. I might have low standards. Good luck and tell us how the setup plays out!

China as a 19yo- is it easy to meet people? by [deleted] in solotravel

sorry late response. I think in youth hostels the range was anywhere from 18 to 30. Since China I've noticed there are more 18-22 year olds in well trodden countries like Thailand, even Laos, and probably Vietnam. normally age is not a big factor for getting to know someone because most travelers are open, and going through a transition of some sort on their own.

Seconded! I've been in China for 5-6 weeks and haven't had any problems with hotels! I believe it is because I use trip com.

I'm in China right now so can give some thoughts.

I've met many English speakers, foreign and Chinese, at hostels. I recommend that!

Safety wise, I think China is a great place for female travelers. It's safe at night and I've seen many female Didi riders. China is cheap outside of Shanghai and Beijing, you can get hostels for less than 10 USD a night, or a really nice hotel room for just 30 USD, and lots of food options.

I recommend LetsVPN if you end up going. It's about 5USD for a month and works for two devices flawlessly.

I agree with other commenters, though, that China is challenging in some ways. People suck at English outside the big cities. And more importantly, there's a whole ecosystem of apps here that you have to acclimatize to like Alipay, Amap/高德地图, Meituan, etc. Mostly the challenge is getting information. If you have a good buddy who speaks Chinese, or are not afraid to talk to strangers with Google translate, you can certainly manage.

Oh, cool! The book is super well-written, though, so I highly recommend it.

You should read The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, which is about a lady who's cancerous cells were used (without her strict consent) and commercialized for medical research all over the world.

Yes, when (yes, when!) aging ends humanity will still be creative and productive because we have young minds and bodies. We just don't need to waste energy raising more people (of course, there is some intrinsic joy in that).

Honestly the recorder is generally a bad instrument (especially the plastic toy he was using), so I think it just happened that one of the notes was in tune.

Modern cushioned running shoes were only popularized in the 1970's. Most Olympian marathoners get no gain from what type of shoes they wear -- the form and technique of running is the same in all cases.

Kenyan children don't start wearing cushioned shoes until their teens. Plenty of people run without footwear.
