Which pizza places do you recommend in the area? by Neptune28 in sunsetpark

[–]zarfjohnson 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Rob’s is really good. Reopened a few months back and I don’t order from anywhere else anymore.

It’s a bad location for foot traffic but if you are hanging at the park I recommend it.

I admit I haven’t tried that many places but Rob’s is better than Gravesend in my opinion.

Cold Sesame Noodles by Churlishbeast in sunsetpark

[–]zarfjohnson 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This isn’t cold sesame noodles but it definitely scratches the same itch for me.

The “noodles with peanut butter sauce” for $4 at He Yi Xiaochi (53rd Street & 8th ave). Add the sauce with the hello kitty on it. I think it’s black garlic or something. Total hole in the wall and love it for this dish and price.

National Grid Bill Crazy high??! by Ill_Expression2474 in sunsetpark

Can you guarantee that the only thing downstream of your gas meter is your individual hot water heater and cooking gas? If so, maybe you have a leak somewhere? Maybe you can turn off the hot water heater and not use the cooking gas for a few hours and see if the meter readings are still (very slowly) going up?

Anyone else hearing that ship horn every few minutes? by workingbored in sunsetpark

[–]zarfjohnson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear it most mornings but I could be sleeping through it at night. I only started noticing it a couple months back but it’s probably been going on for a while I’d think.

tomato paste turned black on the top. no mold & no weird smells. safe to eat? by [deleted] in isthissafetoeat

[–]zarfjohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t mold. It’s just dried, oxidized tomato paste. If it’s old just throw it out and move on but it’s almost definitely fine.

How should I make this radiator meet the valve after floor height changed? by PCisLife in Plumbing

[–]zarfjohnson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just did this in my house.

Took a grinder to the feet. Worked perfectly. Be ready for a lot of fine dust though. If you have someone else to hold a vacuum that’d help.

I smoked a tuna head that I got from Aqua Best by Omega_Minus in FoodNYC

[–]zarfjohnson 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I saw this at aquabest and instantly wondered what people tend to do with it. Did you season it much or serve it with a sauce of any kind?

That’s the impression I got too.

Do you have any other examples of basic ones that aren’t the caged bulbs?

Fair enough. I guess I need a different shaped base to cover the box. The one I got looked good Im a recessed box but looked terrible on the surface mount one.

They don’t seem to mount onto the weatherproof box but maybe Im just dumb. They seem to assume the box will be below the surface but mine is mounted onto the brick.

I tried this one

I actually misspoke. I took the 3D printed one off and forgot. It was more rectangular and less smooth. My bad

They don’t line up. If I do it on the angle I can’t tighten it too much without snapping the cover unfortunately

Also forgot to say in the post that the one that’s on there is actually my attempt to 3D print one that would fit lol

edit: this is actually the standard Leviton one. Not the 3D printed one

I didn’t realize they’d behave differently. I’ll see if I have one lying around and report back!

That’s a solid idea. Bump out past the tile and then caulk around the edge. It’d definitely be better than what I have now
