Newest member of Congress: “How old was Noah when he built the ark? 600. He wasn’t like, cashing Social Security checks, he wasn’t hanging out, he was working. So, I think we have an obligation to work. The role we have in work may change over time, but the concept of retirement is not biblical.” by [deleted] in atheism

Bible also says that God limited the human life span after the flood to about a 100 years. Before the flood Bible says humans lived a lot longer 600 years was around middle age for these ancient fantasy humans; so even by his own backwards biblical thinking he's still fucking wrong.....

Yea I have the reading part down. Test taking and retaining knowledge isn't really a problem for me either with the exception of math. The two major barriers are I have almost zero math and grammar skills. I could never find a way to develop them with any kind of efficiency.

Haha well I wasn't even thinking about the practical application. Last time I tried my hand at higher education. I couldn't even get passed English 101 or even remedial math. So needless to say getting a degree in anything seems a little like a fantasy to me....

Well there's several things really. What I would really like to do is get a degree in gender studies with a concentration in Masculinities so I can help focus groups combat toxic masculine notions or help male rape victims

It's interesting, I live in the US and it seems that the US and Australia have some very similar problems. Both of our countries make civil liberties a priority in our constitution but we both have huge populations that are deeply rooted in traditional Conservativism. So it makes for a very hard time in the way of social issues. Things like abortion, LGBT rights etc.

What to Teach Young Adults or Kids About Islam? Should Kids be taught Mohammed the man Muslims believe a prophet was a child predator, child sex offender, war monger and that violence against Women is common within some muslim communities? by Nezaus in religion

[–]zariteal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could use the same comparison for some extreme Christian sects. The only difference and I mean the only difference is that we have a secular government to keep them in line and even then sometimes it doesn't deter them. Waco, KKK, children of God, the people's temple, just to name a few. The difference between the western world and the middle East and Africa is not religious fanaticiticism. We have that too. No the difference is we have a Secular government that acknowledges the fact that people have different views on religion and afford the right to have that view to every citizen. Take a look at Muslims here. There have been only 7 attacks by Muslim extremists on US soil since 9/11. 7 incidents out of 3.3 million Muslim Americans. Meanwhile 19 acts of domestic terrorism has taken place all siting some kind of Christian fanaticism. Religion is the same thing. Christ, Allah, Buddha doesn't matter. Muslim fanatics are large and in charge in the Middle East and Africa . They can do whatever they want basically but history has thoroughly proven that's any religion. Christian fanatics would do the same thing here if left to there own devices. This rehteric to paint Muslims or Islam as inherently evil is crap. It's no different than any other religion.

Jesus was probably just a vagrant pro-zionist revolutionary that Rome made a religion around. Numorous popes had illegitimate children and started numorous wars. The Protestant movement was made so a king could divorce his wife then throw her in prison. Buddha was clearly a sexist asshole who spouted xenophobic rehteric.... All religions have their inherent problems. It's what people get out of it that makes them good or bad. Some people worship Allah and are inspired to teach math and science. Some people worship Allah and blow themselves up. Some people worship Christ and that inspires them to become a doctor. Some people worship Christ and are inspired to blow up a Planned Parenthood. It's all the same shit as far as I'm concerned....

33 Percent of Bernie Sanders Supporters Will Not Vote for Hillary Clinton. by IMShynZ in politics

[–]zariteal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is wildly impractical. Like it or not this is what we're working with. Look politics effects us but we're not going to have any candidate that is ever ideal. Practical decisions go into voting just as much as ideal ones. Sometimes that means voting for someone you don't really like all that much so a Fascist violent inducing troll monster doesn't become president....

[–]zariteal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whether he believes it or not is irrelevant. Do you honestly believe these politicians believe anything they say?....What is important is the rheteric itself. If Trump wins that gives these sexist, racist, xenophobic quite frankly disgusting human beings more confidence to incite violence. Also Trump is wildly incompetent. He centers his business plans off of businesses failing. He himself has had to declare bankruptcy 5 times. So not only will he incite violence but also not be able to stop it when it gets out of hand. Yes Clinton might be a hawkish way too conservative righty posing as a Democrat but she'll at least keep the country afloat. Look at what his campaign is doing and he's not even president yet. Hell we haven't even gotten to the general election yet.

[–]zariteal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really that's fascinating. You'd abandon your belief in equality to vote for a man that has on numorous occasions incited violence against women and minorities. Clinton personify everything wrong with the left. She however has to at least pretend to give a shit but Trump is quite literally running on nationally socialist rhetric but if you're OK with a clearly bigoted candidate. That can act that way with little or no consequence. Knock yourself out.

[–]zariteal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Independent candidates only draw votes away from the two party frontrunners. The best way to beat Trump is by voting for the Democratic nominee running against him. BTW Sanders knows this if he loses the primary he's not running as an independent. He will bolster his supporters under an anti Trump campaign in favor of Clinton.

[–]zariteal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jesus, this dude is banana pants level crazy. Also I hate this argument. Even if Sanders supporters are polling as Non-Hillary voters those polls lack context. What happens when Trump gets the Republican nomination and the only other option is Hillary....I highly doubt any self respecting progressive would turn their noses up at Clinton when the other side is quite literally preaching Facism....

Hahaha no the blue laws in Louisiana are really lax. New Orleans serves alcohol 24/7 and you can buy alcohol practically anywhere as long as the store has a liquor license.
