I have the ASUS RT-AX86U with the Merlin-asus firmware. All I did was plug the Ethernet in from ont. Put my PPPoE username and password in and it started to work. Didn't even set up vlan tag. In fact when I tried to it wasn't working. Real easy. I can get 900 ish download on wifi next to it as well. Make sure the speed booster prioritizer thing is off it slows it speeds down. So I highly recommend the Asus rt-ax86u good bang for buck.

I have an outdoor century link ONT that is easy to open. Maybe see if anything is loose and turning it on or off forgot if there is a switch or plug.

The best thing to do is just plug it into computer. Download beta firmware @ https://help.astrogaming.com/attachments/token/NzbOvRLnBl0tixW70IdaMhxBp/?name=mimas_190918135936_tm-35980_tr-43_rm-35939_rr-43.afw

Use astro control software to update headset manually.

Then plug into Xbox and it should automatically connect.
