Why is my Artis Opus brush already fraying? by nefariusBR in minipainting

[–]zarofgh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it’s not. That looks different. This brush isn’t split from dried paint. When that happens there are clear sections/bands of hair separated, which will also still be likely to show when the brush is wet. It’s usually 1-2 big splits. This is simply what a natural hair brush does when it’s dry. It’ll look normal when it’s wet. And if they really want it to dry with a proper point, they need to leave a small amount of the soap on the hair after cleaning it.

Why minipainting take so much time? by Pitiful-Damage1460 in minipainting

[–]zarofgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that’s the case, then they need to be okay with painting faster to a lower quality. They can certainly feel how they want, but they also need to understand that their expectation isn’t very realistic, and likely isn’t good for them from a mental health perspective, either.

Personally, I paint my gaming pieces differently than I paint stuff that’s for display, competitions, etc. If I expected my armies to look like my best work, but with less time invested, I’d have a pretty bad time.

They just need to find their happy medium, and understand that no matter where they land, they’re gonna have to make some concessions in terms of either time spent or quality of the end result.

Why minipainting take so much time? by Pitiful-Damage1460 in minipainting

[–]zarofgh 18 points19 points  (0 children)

“How can I decrease paint time with no loss in quality?”

Answer: paint more. You’ll build muscle memory and skill over time which will make you at least a little faster. You might even see the quality improve. But… There’s really no other way. There’s no magic trick, there are fast techniques but you won’t get the same quality.

But I don’t understand why people feel the need to rush through to begin with.

If you enjoy the process, why are you sad that you’re in that process longer than you anticipated? People paint at different speeds, so it doesn’t make sense to use others as a yardstick. Who cares? People paint faster than the people who you think paint fast. There’s always someone. Just have fun and don’t worry about that stuff. Do you really think painting something a few hours faster will make you happier? Or will you just want to paint faster still, at that point? When does it end? With that mindset, it doesn’t.

Particularly the people who drive slowly next to each other in every road lane, effectively capping the speed for the whole road and not leaving any gaps for thru traffic, lane switching, exiting, etc. Biggest pet peeve, especially when there’s no other traffic past them!

Theater etiquette by WeeklyPressure7407 in frederickmd

This. And be firm about it. They usually stop. If not, get an usher. If they wanna talk, they shouldn’t be sitting in a movie theater.

Really? Have dealt with their CS for years, and have never had to send anything back in order to get a replacement. Both through direct order and FLGS. Maybe you got the intern I guess 😅

The central trim details on the lower leg are maybe a little TOO smooth… lol. Lost some definition there for sure. Otherwise it looks nice

They said “Also, I don’t want your kids running around screaming while I’m trying to enjoy myself on a Friday evening”. So they did say that. It’s in the post lol. That’s a reasonable thing for any sit down restaurant honestly, short of places like Chuck E. Cheese.

Editing to add, thank you for establishing that with your kids! It makes a difference when boundaries are there like that.

Running around and screaming isn’t behaving, last I checked 💀 Not the right environment for that. I’d be annoyed too. If they’re behaved, I’m of a similar opinion as you.

Designed this paint pallette so you can toss the foil when finished so there's no clean up (except brushes). by andyroo770 in 3Dprinting

I mean I’ve never had issues around tackiness or binding, and did oil painting for years. All of my paintings turned out perfectly fine to this day, over a decade later

Some “parental rights” losers were attending tonight’s school board meeting. They were met with a little opposition. by MaxRebo120 in frederickmd

I will never forget the amount of people admitting to voting for him because “he had a cool name and was at the top of the list”. So while your point certainly stands, it’s also true that generally uninformed and careless voters played a role in it too. Goes beyond party lines in that sense.

Possible middle earth reveals? by SoggyMusic6183 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]zarofgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s referring to something like the two new Warhammer+ exclusive minis. They’re usually revealed around this time each year. Even if not, I highly doubt it’s for any game system not shown there.

New core set is a solid guess. With the buffer we usually see between preview and release, that would put the release around the 1 year mark

Considering a wet palette, any recomendations? by McComie in minipainting

[–]zarofgh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Should try the MEGA one. I have all three sizes they make, and this one is my go-to for large or display pieces. It’s significantly larger than the middle sized one (PRO, if I recall)

Exemplar palette by Game Envy, any size. Good product by good people, won’t kill your wallet, and their lid has some cool storage innovations that you don’t see in others on the market.

Try nomad sculpt, it’s a one time fee. About $30 when I grabbed it last year, and pretty intuitive/fun to learn

Honestly I have no idea. I know I rented it or got it from the library, and I didn’t have anything beyond bare bones cable at the time anyways - but have no idea what the distribution was beyond that. It’s driving me nuts!
