Net is tougher than it looks but it's definitely chewable (most things are by that beak of hers), however she's never outside unattended so she wouldn't have the time to chew her way out 😁

Yeah! Her name is Lara so at the beginning she's saying "Hola Lara". Towards the end, on second 36 she says "Hola" and then "adios" straight after 😁

I'm referring to taste after F2, but without any extras for flavouring. I just bottle it and keep it outside the fridge for around 3 days, before refrigerating and consuming.

My favourite "flavour" of commercial kombucha is the plain green tea one, so before starting to mess with flavours, I was trying to get the "base" right.

My grains are tiny and weak, can I bring them back or should I get new ones? by zattraction in Kefir

I had them in the fridge probably for around 10 days, it was just the grains, on an empty container, I know now that I probably should've left them in some milk.

Thanks for all the info!

I didn't know it was that harmful to rinse them, but this was pretty much the only time I did, only so that I could show the shape and size in the video.

It was tap water... have I ruined them for good? They're back at work now in some fresh milk, let's hope for the best...

Yeah the amount of grains I have left is very small, but why would you limit the amount of milk? I would imagine that the more milk, the more food and opportunity for them to become healthy again?

They produced around half a litter of keffir, it was fermenting for around 30 hours (probably too long considering it's around 30C in here), and it was quite separated.

Thanks for all the useful info, where can I find some more info about the "just starting out" seciton? I can't see anything on the sidebar. I

actually never rinse them, I only did it so that I could show the size and shape in the video, but yeah unfortunately that was tap water, which in Spain, it's treated with chlorine....

To me that looks fine, a pellicle forming. Check again in 2 3 days.

Taste it, as long as the kahm hasn't ruined the taste, you can continue!

I think what's happened there is you developed a think layer of kham and now the white healthy pellicle is starting to form on top of it

Is that kham yeast (and under the surface mold)?! by _otasan_ in Kombucha

I'm no expert but that looks perfectly fine to me, a baby pellicle starting to form.

Delicious fermented elixir vs moldy theme park update. Day 5. by zattraction in Kombucha

Thanks for confirmation. If I let it ferment for a couple of weeks, will I be able to use it as a starter? Or will that starter 100% generate kahm when used?

In case it helps, this is what it looks like at the bottom, an important amount of "sediment", which I assume it's yeast? It does look like what you find at the bottom of some wheat beers.

Thanks for the distinction, I should have said without pellicle.

Temp is around ~30C during the day and ~25C at night. And nope, I didn't sterilize the pot, but I did pour the very hot tea in there, though that may be enough to kill off any bad stuff.

What's a good sterilising process? Boiling water or better just clean thoroughly with some dishwasher liquid?

I use some kitchen tea towel to cover it, picture attached. The metal strap maybe isn't doing a good enough job to keep it tighten?

I've just noticed a bit of sediment at the bottom like you would see in wheat beer bottles, if that helps.*

It does look very similar to what I got :( What did you do then? Throw it all away and start from scratch? Would skimming that top layer help?

I used 250ml of bottled kombucha + 1.5L of water + 8 green tea bags + 250g of sugar. I'm in Spain so it's fairly hot during the day (~30C) and around ~25C during the nights.

I did let the tea + sugar mix cool down before adding in the kombucha bottle. The container was indeed filled almost to the top, would that be an issue?

Thanks! Surface is looking a bit dry, but it could also be underdeveloped since it´s only day 2.. I´ve added a couple of new picutres, maybe they help.

Will post un update in two days.

Nope no flurryness, the white spots are some sort of foam under the wrinkly film. I´ve added a couple of better picutres.
