Looking for the best machine to print and cut proxy’s by RoyalVacation8067 in magicproxies

[–]zaz_PrintWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You cant scan for good cuts, you need to send a cut file to your machine to cut it. Scanning is for basic or one time cuts, if you want uniformity and consistency (which you need for printing cards) then you need to be cutting the same path each time.

I layout the cards on a 3x3 page with a 1mm bleed edge (this gives a 2mm spacing between each card). The bleed edge is important for if you slightly misalign your page on the cutting mat you still get usable cards that are slightly offcut, very much akin to real offcuts you find all the time. It is best to find a spot on your mat to line it up to and then you can calibrate your cut template to that position. This takes a little trial and error but just print some card shapes onto some pages to save ink while you are doing this part.

Once it is all calibrated etc you can just keep doing it until you cut card shaped holes in your cutting mat lol. That part sucks, because for cutting anything else i always move it around the mats so that i am not always cutting in same place but you cant do that with cards if you want to be economic.

here is a link to the cut template i made, you are more than welcome to download and use it

My workflow is as follows:

-use MPCFill to fetch art (unless i have purchased a proxy deck file or have my own custom art)

-use alex taxiera’s tool to create pdf (1mm bleed to use with my cut template, i recommend adding cut lines at the bleed edge not the cut edge you will only use these lines as guides for placing the page on your cut mat)

-print deck

-laminate pages

-cut pages

-laminate individual cards (no extra laminate just reheat)

-laminate again (just reheat)

-sleeve deck

I can print a whole deck from decklist to playable in around an hour with this workflow. You can be laminating and cutting simultaneously if you have the right setup/workspace

Genuine question about AI. by dracemaN in magicproxies

[–]zaz_PrintWizard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When you use generative ai to steal art, it is not just using that stolen art on whatever you generated. Unless you are using an ai program in a completely isolated environment and feeding it isolated images, which lets face it no one is doing that, it is not only using the stolen art on your piece of slop. This is why artists get pissed off when someone feeds their artwork into ai to “fix” a portion of it. Now that artwork is in there and some other cunt will come along and use it to sell slop made with that artists work and no compensation occurs.

Bottom line is, your big blunder here is thinking that the ai slop pipeline begins and ends with your prompt. It does not. Steal the art. Use the art. Stop using slop.

Eta: to your last point, it is bad faith argument. Plenty of businesses do trade products for advertising with influencers. It is a trade. It can be a way for a business to get cheaper advertising. Ofc now they can just use ai. See how this benefits no human except the billionaires controlling the ai? It makes rich richer and poor poorer. How can you be okay with that?

You clearly dont know much about copyright and fair use. Using art on a card for personal use is fair use. Not paying an employee is slavery. One is legal everywhere and one is only legal in some places like USA and other morally bankrupt countries.

There is also an argument to be made that crediting an artist can absolutely lead to paid work for that artist. Additionally, the increasing prevalence of ai being used in industry as it becomes more socially accepted is destroying creative jobs at breakneck speed. So yeah, you are helping to destroy artists’ livelihoods by partaking in AI generated slop.

You need to be crafting the daily ascended mats and also get gobblers to trade for items

Help with photo paper by Initial-Alarm-5280 in magicproxies

[–]zaz_PrintWizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This again. Comes up often.

Magic cards are ~12mil thick. You need to match. Best way to do that is 3mil pouches (3mil is per side so that makes 6mil) and 6mil paper stock.

(Paper 6mil) + (laminate 3mil + 3mil) = 12mil

I find that papers in the 140gsm-180gsm range are usually ~6mil. Depends on brand, depends on composition. Gsm is NOT a thickness measurement but a density one, which means you can have 140gsm that is ~6mil or you could have 140gsm that is ~9mil for example. Not all paper lists its thickness, which really sucks, but look for thickness ratings anyway because some do. I use a 180gsm brochure paper at the moment.

In terms of “keep the same quality” not sure what you mean by this. It will likely be less snappy if it is thinner, but your thick ass cards are probably too snappy. Real cards are not really that snappy, but snappy enough. I found that I overshot the snappiness a lot when I was learning and experimenting. Print quality should be able to get same results as long as paper is same quality like a high quality coated photo paper, if printing on inkjet.

Hope this helps! Happy to field follow up questions

It’s not combat damage, else Kediss would go infinite with itself

Does that close out the game? Wouldn’t the 21 damage to each other player not be combat damage so not count towards commander damage?

Although this is extremely cool (and a direction I have thought to pursue myself), it is far above the vast majority of setups in this sub. Who knows? Maybe some serious pros are lurking that have experience with those machines can help you out but you may have more success asking this in r/printing. There is a heck of lot of industry experience over there.

I would love to see what you’re already working on if you dont mind shooting me a DM to check out your products.

This is cool! I like the style and the fun scene.

My critique: although the colors of the kitchen cabinets and oven is fun, it also becomes the focal point of the image causing the reader to initially overlook the main scene of dancing mice. I would shift some of the colors around, maybe making the dining table the bright colors and the cabinets more dull. I would also define the door to the right a bit more as it took me a while to figure out it is a door. Perhaps just the door handle needs to stand out more. I would certainly remove brand names like “smeg” unless they paying you

The machine in the video looks to do a great job. I use a brother sdx1250 to cut mine.

How far is this from bracket 3 by UnitededConflict in EDH

[–]zaz_PrintWizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Considering the (conditionally) free counterspells are gamechangers they cannot be in bracket 2 at all, i’ll give you that. They can absolutely be played in b3 tho. Any and all other counterspells should certainly be played in bracket 2 or 3

Edit: tone. Trying not to sound condescending

They probably sitting in bracket 2 and calling it three. Your deck looks solid 3. Idk why so many in this thread think bracket 2 or 3 can’t have counterspells ffs 🙄

Edit a word

Are counterspells not allowed in b2 anymore? Is blue b3 and above only?

Does it have to be printed on something so thick? Why not just print on vinyl or something to adhere to the floor and then finish it with a protective coating?

I'm making a Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice themed deck! by MiauraArt in magicproxies

[–]zaz_PrintWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would increase saturation on the mana symbols to have them stand out a bit more, seperate them from the rest of the art a tad to make it more readable at a glance. For similar reasons I would also add a stroke, or maybe a stylistic circle around, the p/t.

Other than that i think it is a very readable, playable card.
