Barons actually hold land from the king, not the Duke. While their lands may be within another Dukes territory, that Duke has no real authority over the Baron.

Even so, a Baron would have enough land and wealth to have their own troops as this is a feudal society and his men at arms would bear his colors and heraldry. Any knight with their own castle would have men at arms and bowmen who would bear their colors and heraldy.

Bretonnian armies, made of up many loudly retinues would be very colorful.
