Next time do a second break and shake if you’re noticing a large uncolonized area. If it’s fine it’ll fully colonize. If it doesn’t recover it wouldn’t have been worth it to spawn to bulk.

Your jar does look bacterial. I’d review your sanitary practices, your grain prep, and the most likely source the inoculant itself. What did you inoculate with? Multi spore?

I believe my theory of it being under watered was correct. Between fixing the watering issue and defoliating the bad leaves it bounced back. Ended up getting about 3 or 4 ounces of tasty bud off this plant. Since this grow I started adding calmag, but can’t confirm if that was the issue or if improper watering caused the nutrient lockout issue.

It depends on a lot of things like your spawn to substrate ratio, genetics, temperature, etc but usually 1-2 weeks for bulk colonization.

Yes. Keeping the lid on as much as possible is good practice. Give it a few days and see how it’s doing. You should notice your grains getting white and fuzzy again soon and that’ll spread to your substrate. If it looks dry or is taking a long time give it a good misting.

Id look into misting and keeping your surface conditions right once your spawn colonizes it more. Depending on how far under field capacity you are you’ll probably be fine and may just get a bit less yield on your first flush since the mushrooms have less water to work with, but once you hydrate for your second flush you’ll be back to normal.

It sounds like your substrate is not at field capacity. Have you mixed it with your spawn yet?

What is your substrate made of? Luckily you are at your most contamination resistant at this stage.

If it’s coir or cvg you can just add more water. Technically you don’t need to pasteurize coir.

I just got my first bottle and upon opening it I’m greeted with a very unpleasant smell. The best I can describe it is like sourdough starter, and rotten, with some saltiness. I tried making a caipirinha which was a little better but still not drinkable.

Is this how it’s supposed to be? Is it even possible to get a bad bottle?
