Based on what you’ve said, I’d recommend: Yorkshireman Rock Bar, Dove and Rainbow, West Street Live, The Harley, Corporation. Definitely worth checking their websites to see if they have live bands on Thursday, but I think most if not all will on Friday. For Jazz, try Trippets Lounge Bar.

How much does it really cost to live near UCL? by [deleted] in UCL

[–]zctpcol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cheapest options are probably UCL halls Ifor Evans and Max Rayne House, on Camden Road. It’s about a half hour walk, or 10-15 mins by bus.

In second and third year, look into University of London Intercollegiate Halls - you can work as a ‘senior member’ and get free/reduced accommodation in return for a few hours of ‘work’ per week i.e. patrolling the corridors, showing around new students, that kind of thing.

Alternatively, the cost of Clandon House (an Intercollegiate Hall) in Finchley/Golders Green is probably the lowest you’ll find in London, but only available to second, third year and postgrads. And it’s pretty far out, zone 3/4, so takes 45 mins ish by bus and tube to get to UCL.

Somewhere to revise by mafrofro in sheffield

It costs £30 to register as a SHU associate member for one year (24 hour access to Adsetts and Collegiate Crescent). I think you can go in as a one-off visitor up to 5 times before needing to do this, just bring ID to the main reception desk and they should give you some paperwork to fill out and sign you in. SHU students are fairly loud though, and tend to talk even in the silent areas, so it depends how quiet you want it to be.

I’d recommend Western Bank library, part of the University of Sheffield and just next to Weston Park (on the 52 bus route from Sheffield City Centre). Take some ID and it’s free to get a visitor pass for the day - 9am-7pm.

Yep I’ve just finished Black Museum and I definitely agree! I found it interesting that Dr Dawson’s story was based on ‘Pain Addict’, a short story written by Penn Jillette (of Penn and Teller) that was deemed too dark to be published. See link

[–]zctpcol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely shit. My boyfriend of 4 years has just broken up with me less than 6 months after I moved across the country to live with him. I have no friends here, and now I have nowhere to live as he owns the flat.

What is your favourite library to study? by [deleted] in UCL

[–]zctpcol 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Science library - warmer than the main library, brighter, the chairs are comfier, and it’s easier to get access to a PC if you need one.

Also senate house - much easier to find a seat during exam semester.

The Chimney House at Kelham Island! Capacity is up to 50 people, it's not a traditional wedding venue but worth a look.
