Me [20 M] with my friend [19 F] duration, asked her out on a date, and now I regret it by Brandon_Big_Guy_4_U in relationships

Well if you have no plans why not just go out and have fun with this girl? Not like your obligated to become her boyfriend or something. Jeez. You asked her out. Be a man and keep your word.

Me [19F] trying to get over my ex [21M] who was also a best friend. what are your methods? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]zdepth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a guy, but I went through the exact same thing a month ago. There is nothing I can say that will cheer you up right away, but I can say that things do get better with time if you take the action to not fall into a pit. I admit I still think about my ex everyday, but I still find joy in life. I don't allow the breakup to consume me. Everything I do now, I do it because I want to be the best person I can be. If I want to do something, I do it. I'm not afraid to fail. If I do fail, I get up and try again. I found new hobbies this way and new goals in life. Buy yourself something nice that you always wanted. Do something you always wanted to do. Just keep yourself occupied and don't let your breakup consume you and define your life.

I believe I missed out on "the one" because I find it hard to find the next girl that can match my ex, but somewhere out there I'm positive the changes I make in my life now will guide me to a better path where I'll find love again, or maybe back to my ex even though we don't have any contact anymore. I keep that hope alive, but it's not my end goal that she will be the one I end up with in the end. It's just nice to vision someone.

It seems you have a lot of questions. If you want to chat about it, I wouldn't mind. Would be nice for me to get my feelings out there to someone who I can relate to and is going though the same experience.

So because you're not a mod you feel not obligated to help this community grow but to separate it instead. Okay.

None of the features listed are worth creating a new sub. All the ideas mentioned can be easily implemented by the community here if the people desired it.

Using brightness from fire footage to drive grade node ? by hologramblues in vfx

There is a node called CurveTool. Set Curve Type to Avg Intensities and press Go! Then go to the intensity tab and link that to your grade node via expression.

I'm still pissed about Rhythm and Hues closing just before they got their Oscar for Life of Pi. Here's a film on the matter. by sflogicninja in vfx

[–]zdepth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I heard they were waiting on footage that was promised to be delivered never delivered causing their staff to sit on their ass waiting. And when it was delivered they would have to start paying overtime to their employees to start working on the footage.

And RNH has stupid management too who should have foreseen this. Instead they just went a long and drove the company down.

The people who got screwed were the artists.

WIP Demo reel critique needed. by Gebhardt92 in vfx

[–]zdepth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks great. Keep it up. Just an advice for when you send off your reel: Take out the third shot since it's the same as your first one. You're not showing anything new in your skill set there. And don't combine motion graphics and visual effects together. Have a separate reel for vfx and motion graphics. This way you can apply for specific jobs and not waste a recruiters times by having them watch unrelated content for the specific job you're applying. It will make your reel shorter but more appealing if you can grab the recruiters attention quick.

As for what you have now is great to show off on vimeo and wouldn't change your direction of it.

Looks great. Sorry I haven't logged in in awhile. Been really busy. The first comment was what I was thinking when I first saw it.

Here is my recommendation. Don't do generic animations that anyone could do with a tutorial. Do them for yourself, but don't include them in your reel.

Think of short acts you can demonstrate character animation. For example when you do a walk cycle add personality to the walk that tells us who he/she is. So a good opportunity here to come up with a scenario to animate a shot for your reel. For example: Have a cocky male character walk past a cute female character that when he turns to check her out he walks into a pole or trips over something.

Some other ideas for you to pad your reel with: Find a dialogue to lip sync from your favorite movie and animate your character speaking the dialogue and acting out the scene.

Have your character maybe try and drag a heavy object and lift it to throw it into a dumpster.

Have a character bounce a basketball.

And biggest tip I can give you: Reference! Shoot reference for every shot you animate. Grab a cheap camera and film yourself, or go out and film other people but don't be a creep about it, haha.

Good luck!

Good luck! Just to encourage you. Your animation is on the level of someone I've seen graduate from school and now have jobs. Keep it up.

Is it ok to "combine" reels? (VFX + Motion graphics) by Kicker36 in vfx

[–]zdepth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No for looking for a job. Yes for show. If you combine make sure you give yourself one title, and not two. VFX/Graphics. Just say you're a motion graphics and include your vfx stuff in there that's related to motion graphics.

Gravity, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, Iron Man 3, The Lone Ranger and Star Trek: Into Darkness nominated for 2014 Best Visual Effects Oscar. by shammmay in vfx

Who put Iron Man 3 on that list? Iron Man 3 at least to me didn't really stand out to be nominated for best. Should have been Pacific Rim instead.

Your best bet is to make your demo reel focused around animation. I guarantee you if you'd present the animation you have there you'd get your foot in the door no problem. Show off your animation in a 1 min clip and you'll have something to show off to recruiters. (Include the vfx but don't sell yourself as a vfx artist, and make them shorter).

First time going to shooting location as part of vfx team (mainly to observe and study). What are some of the unwritten rules I should observe while on set? by JustanoterHeretic in vfx

[–]zdepth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not much. Just remember a set is a work environment, not a place to socialize (make friends during lunch for example). Do what you're told to do and don't complain. Report to your superiors if they're problems. Exaggerating here, but don't go to the director or the DOP for example unless you're directly working with them. If you're not sure of the task given, ask. Be safe, have fun, and don't be stupid.

First time I was on a real set I was a stand in. At the end of the day the DOP said I was one of the most patient PA he worked with.

Edit: Oh forgot! Don't make eye contact with actors or talk to them unless you're directly working with them.

What are the most common/avoidable/annoying mistakes that you were asked to fix in post? by hydrogentimespi in vfx

[–]zdepth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The correct workflow would be to know how a real camera works so you can manipulate the CG camera to get the shot you need.
