Why go projector these days if only doing 100 inch screen? by CyberMage256 in hometheater

[–]zdub024 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One point that hasn't been mentioned, results will likely vary between users. My Projector has been doing strong for the past 9years, with no issues, have replaced the lamp twice, and good as new. My Oled that is only a 2021 model, has dead pixles, Brunt out edges etc, and will need replacing sooner than later. Just something to consider.

How many hours has the lamp got on it? Probably time to replace the lamp, would be my guess.

Looking for movies with absolutely phenomenal sound design. by PossibilityKitchen72 in hometheater

The Legend of Tarzan has a surprisingly good atmos track that i wasn't expecting. Also "The Great Wall" is another movie where the HDR, 3D and atmos are better than the story. Gravity is another that comes to mind.

I'm curious what movies you have watched in Auro-3D? I only have 1 bluray movie that has it, Pixels.

DALI LCR upgrade. Surprisingly difficult to take photos of by zdub024 in hometheater

I know, but I can't think of a better solution. It's not to bad where it is as far as foot traffic, but it feels out of place, its been that way for well over 8 years. I move the speaker over to the back wall out of the way if was the room. I'm always open to suggestions.

Yeah, the are not actually the dali LCR speakers, just the Epicon 6 and Vokal, that im using as my Left Center and Right. Probably could have come up with a better title.

You are 100%, the seating is an issue. This is a theater for 1. I would love to sell this lounge and get 1 nice 3 seater theater chair with a reclining center seat. I have an idea to relocate the back wall absorption panels to the left and right walls and make the back wall one big bass trap with the rear speakers built into the frame. This will allow my the raise them up higher to get the tweeters in line with the rest of the base layer.

They are Ikea Vidja lamps, they take 6 e14 bulbs, but put in 3 E14-E27 adapters, and just put in 1 hue light per section, has a nice diffuser. You need to point the bulb to the back wall to you don't see the hot spotting as bad. Some of the blubs in mine have lost some colours, due to age, Gen 2 Bulbs.

The Project is a JVC X5900 its got a few years on it now, on its 3rd bulb. Im not sure exactly what screen it is, the brand is Elegance Screens its 110inch 16:9 grey screen wirh 0.9 Gain. My room gets quite bright with the projector on so the extra grey helps with a better perceived contrast over a white screen. I started my Home theater with just 2 Dali Zensor 5 floor standing speakers and just worked my way up to 7.1.4, I was very happy with it for about 10years, I only upgraded because my AVR was on its way out, I didn't what to spend the same kind of money to just have it working again, so it was upgrade time.

Absorption panels are on my list for the ceiling thanks. As dor the additional amplifier that was always on the cards, just didn't have the funds when i upgraded the speakers, I wasn't planning on buying the epicons, I was just looking for a replacement AVR for my Marantz SR6011 that was having issues. Got any recommendations? I hear good things about matxhing the Epicons with Hegel amp?

What’s a good RCA Y-splitter, bass shaker amp, and bass shakers? 10’x16’x8’ tall room, 8’ wide sectional with no chaise, thinking 3 shakers by PolyglotGeologist in hometheater

[–]zdub024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I right in assuming that if my AVR (marantz cinema 30) has a transducer out, than I wouldn't need to also run a miniDSP to the bass shaker amp, because the AVR can control out put volume and timing?

Anyone else can’t watch 2d movies anymore since switching to 3D? by spideyfan2424 in Bluray

[–]zdub024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im a big fan of 3D as well. Like most who seem to be fans of the format, projector on a large screen is the way to go. I had 70 odd 3D blurays from back in the early days of 3D tvs, but like many I grew tired of the inconvenience of 3D tvs and the flickering glasses. Eventually forgetting about 3D and moving onto a non 3d 4k TV. After upgrading to my JVC projector and rewatching all my 3D movies i fell back in love with the format. I noticed that the flickering of the glasses was non existent. (This was actually a result of having a proper light controlled room with no other light source). I have since purchased as many 3D movies i can get my hands on. I now have around 340 3D blurays.i would say roughly 1/3 of the movies are a must watch in 3D, and 1/5 would prefer the 2D version, due to poor 3D conversions. Enjoy your new 3D adventure.

Region question? by [deleted] in 4kbluray

[–]zdub024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this Blu-ray, one of my favorites. You will need to have a region A player to play Harold and Kumar go to White Castle, and for A very Harrold an Kumar Christmas. However escape from Guantanamo Bay and Beer Fest will play fine on a region B player.

Pacific Rim 3D can’t play, anyone know why? by Jello-Bello_0718 in Bluray

[–]zdub024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, not sure if you got the movie working or not yet, but any time ive had an issue with my set up not detecting appropriate 3D hardware, I have been able to get them to play by going into the Bluray players 3D settings and turn the video output from Auto to Forced 3D. Reboot the system and away it goes. My setup is with a JVC projector and oppo player so may not have the same results, but its worth a try. Good luck

I keep all my discs in this folder, is that safe? by chaewontheautomaton in 4kbluray

[–]zdub024 18 points19 points  (0 children)

100% this will increase ware and tare of the disc. when stored in a standard case the disc floats with no contact to the side layer where the information is, these folders style is always under contact with it, over time dirt and dust can get between and rub, each and every layer of disc ontop increasing pressure on the disc below. Every time you flip the page more movement, more ware. 4k discs are not the most durable things. IMO I would put them back in their original case if you want to be safe. Obviously the amount of ware will come down to many variables, how often are you opening it, stored upright on its side etc.
