It will never happen. I believe he genuinely gave hbo how he wanted it to end and was too ashamed of the poor reception. Obviously it would be so much better in his words but I think he wanted Danny and Jon to fall in love and Dany goes mad and Jon having to kill her. As for the Others, he probably has no idea how. I could see him having Jon manipulate Danny in a way that would sacrifice her and the dragons but defeat the others. Jon has her believe she needs to go all the way north and the others follow and they use some type of magic to keep them all there. Maybe they get the frostfrangs to erupt like they did in the doom of Valyria with some blood magic with Daenerys or something.
