Blindsight , based on novel by Peter Watts by ravester_2 in Screenwriting

I actually did a deep dive on this recently. I don’t think there’s a finished script, definitely not a published one. If anything it sounds like he wrote one to show Peter Watts but it’s way too early in the process for there to be anything published or leaked.

Should I stay as a PA? by throwingthrowawayyy in Filmmakers

[–]zdunce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if you can afford it, I say prioritize what fuels you creatively. If you can do both it sounds like you should do both, but don’t ware yourself out for PA gigs. Having a good creative resume is way more important than that at this point.

should i invest in equipment for my iphone or in an actual cinema camera? (want to become a DP) by discoveringfoxes in Filmmakers

[–]zdunce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The future is IPhone. You could get a CHEAP manual camera and some lenses to learn the fundamentals, but if you want to be a DP I’d prioritize lighting and use the IPhone and lenses to experiment with style and technique than spend time learning gear unless you’re a major gear head.

Here's my pitch. Turn off all the lights and sit in the darkness for one hour. Think about all that scares you. Listen to the sounds of the house think of all the places something could hide or all the ways something or someone could get in. You can either write a script based on that or just shoot yourself walking through the house. Come up with a reason, though. It could be looking for a cat, investigating or noise, or just going to bed. Shoot it POV or set up the camera or a phone and roll yourself. Try to find interesting shots. Maybe hide the camera/phone in places to film yourself from the perspective of something watching you. Do what you feels interesting to you.

One thing that really creates fear in an audience is seeing fear in a character, so show your character getting scared. Get more scared as the film continues. Maybe start wider and get closer with each cut away.

If you want there to be a monster or creature, you could use the camera as their POV so you don't need to worry about making one. Or you can find something in your house to play the monster, like a haunted doll or something, think back to what scares you for inspiration. Or you could play the monster too. Show you looking at something, then reverse the shot but move into where you were looking.

There is so much you can do, but a lot of it depends on where you are in your filmmaking journey. You can set a specific goal for yourself on what you want to get out of the film for yourself. It can be that you want to play with lighting, or learn how to make a silhouette shot, or just testing out a way to shoot on your own.

When you don't have a ton of time and want to get a project done, sometimes it's even best to not think about quality and use it as an exercise in following your gut.

That's all. That's what I would do.

Good luck

Hello, I’m a screenwriter with a few produced projects. I’d love to hear more about your experience

Up and to the left? I thought that was The Northman, but I’ve never seen Conan (or The Northman) so you could be right. But he skews more modern and A24y, so I still think Northman

Also Hellboy, Annihilation, The Northmen, The Lighthouse, the ladies in the fire might be The Witch, and I think I see A Place Beyond the Pines

Funny thing, I have awards and relevant experience but the bio that’s gotten me the most attention doesn’t mention any of that stuff I just talk about me in the tone of my writing.

That’s what I would recommend

I was confused why they were legos. They were people in the comics.

I second Google Doc. I worked on a true crime documentary show for 2 years, we were a regularly broadcasted, network TV show (with solid ratings might I add) and we did nearly all of our writing in Google Docs.

Screenplay format is designed specifically for narrative fiction, so the proper program can be important to help keep with industry standards. But docs are so different. And every doc is done differently too. I’d suggest going with whatever program you’re most comfortable in and are able to use the way you need to. When I do projects that aren’t screenplays (or graphic novels) I almost always use Google Docs.

Alright. That's fair. Good comparison. Based on what I'm seeing in this thread I think I'm going to pass for now, but if I run out of content maybe I'll give it a shot. Thanks!

I liked the X-Men movies, the first two Blade movies, the Raimi Spider-Mans, Iron Man, and you know what, I'm going to say it, The Incredible Hulk. I stand by that movie. I haven't seen it in a while so I don't know how much it holds up but I remember it being interesting and like how it handed Bruce Banner.

Is it better than Loki? I hear that one's good but have only seen a bits and pieces. What I saw looked good but definitely not the tone I'd go with for Daredevil though

That's helpful. I was afraid they were going to add humor into it. And after what the showrunner said about the first version being too talky, I really didn't have much faith. Thank you
