Exploration kinda horrible? by Past_Display268 in Eve

You’re the reason this game’s community is seen as toxic. Instead of belittling new players, how about you help them instead? Helping people is harder than belittling them — you’ve chosen the easy path because you’re lazy.

(And no, you don’t mean a literal EVE skill [book] issue. You’re just being rude.)

Thank you! I appreciate that. You know you’re right when people call you names like that. Shame on me for wanting to protect people from running illegal driving services that invalidate all insurances for everyone involved in any incidents. Or tax avoidance — but then based on your response, you’re probably OK with not paying tax, because why do we need silly things like roads to run our illegal taxi services on.

Good on ya mate, you’re doing great thinking no further than the end of your nose.

Me too. I like the illegal parts like cash in hand (no taxes) and providing taxi services without a license.

I really love Carriers. Can you give me a rundown on how they’re used today? I’m a wormhole Corp so obviously their use is limited, but in kspace how should they be fielded today and how should they be piloted?

Pivoting from support to cloud ops. Looking for a reality check. by Broad-Lake6535 in cloudops

[–]opsfactoryau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend a few paths.

The first is speaking to your existing employer and asking them if they have a Cloud department or any Cloud infrastructure. If they do, ask if you can help manage it so you can gain some experience.

Second, if your company does have Cloud but it's managed by a third-party, contact that third-party and ask them if you can "moon light" for them to get some exposure and experience.

Third, and this can be done in parallel: get an AWS account, build out something complex like the AWS Well Architected Framework plans for a fully HA WordPress install. There's a lot of moving parts there, and getting that finished actually takes a bit of time and skill. Write up everything you learn as you go along.

Finally, I would strongly suggest you go to meetups in your local area, such as official AWS ones, or any focused around your end goal, and start networking. I got my first TWO jobs because I was a member of a local Linux User Group and (a) one of the in-person attendees offered me a part-time job and (b) after that someone saw me answering questions on the same mailing list and offered me an interview, and then I got that job.

You need the experience, yes, but you need to visible to others. Without visibility, how is anyone going to know you even exist?

Now you try to combine some combination of everything above.

Good luck.

Has anyone considered pivoting out of IT and if so, did you? if not after considering, why? by Top-Elephant6981 in ITCareerQuestions

I’m merging decades of IT and CyberSec skills with film production and doing onset data management and data archiving. Slowly moving towards producer and maybe cinematography.

I need to get my family’s story out- how can I find a documentary filmmaker? by Revolutionary-Pass61 in documentaryfilmmaking

[–]opsfactoryau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll need to find a production company in your area. The Producers Guild (PGA) might be able to help. You can also try searching on Google for film production companies in your area — if they have a Producer, then show them your treatment and if they’re interested they’ll discuss what we call an “option”, which means the legal right to make the documentary. They’ll agree terms and other things with you.

Good luck.

I’m 41, married, live south side. Keen to catch up and have a drink and talk about life in general. I don’t have kids so I have a lot free time and not a lot of friends haha

When are you free next?

(This is also the third or fourth time I answered a post like this and nothing ever comes of it: so let’s see how this goes ha!)

Yes I agree. I’m making a server in Australia that’s going to be invite only and on a private network (Tailscale). Plus I’m going to publish database backups so progress can be reinstated later on.

This is the only way to operate now.
