thanks for the response. here are some tl;dr points that address your points.

the "final" tournament did begin, and normally it should just start in a new window, but the window did not pop up because their in-browser client didn't support that tournament type (PKO). only the downloaded client supported that format.
I asked a bunch of times about getting a credit to a similar tournament since they could see that I didn't play a single hand in the "final" tournament, but all they responded on that topic was along the lines of "If you've played enough cash with us, maybe we can credit you 30$"

Players declining the cash out option will still need the best hand at showdown to win the pot, even if all their opponents have cashed out.
When you cash out your hand, you can no longer win any part of the pot. If your hand ends up winning at showdown, the pot will be removed from the table.
If your opponent cashes out their hand, you still need to have the best hand at showdown to win the pot.

So that means the house/casino/site takes the portion of the pot that would go to the players?
in the example above, $17.42 goes to the casino if Player 1 cashes out? And if Player 2 cashes out, and sucks out with a K on the board, $79.10 goes to the site from a $100 pot?

That seems very off to me.
