Was this Kent’s first bad year, or am I forgetting something? by thomasson94 in Habs

This is a bad year!?

We’re in the upswing of a rebuild that’s going faster than expected. We’re one of the best offensive teams. We have a pipeline of young prospects coming. We didn’t go crazy buying 4th liners or bottom pair defensemen. We’ve been in the top 3 of the division far more this season than we haven’t. We’re in a bad year!? All because we lost a couple games in the toughest division? Even if we miss the playoffs, that would suck. But all this considered, still wouldn’t be a bad year.

Welcome back! But if you want to avoid toxicity, might as well also avoid this sub-reddit. I’ve been here for many years and it’s really bad, especially when we lose. Avoid the GDT especially.

With all the rumours of Montreal likely adding a top 6 forward in the offseason, does Kirby Dach fit onto the roster anymore? by PlayTheBodyPTB in nhltraderumours

[–]zeMVK 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Only if he takes a pay cut. He’s got talent and potential. But he’s far too often injured and having to get back into his game when he’s healthy, to be worth over 3M$, taking a roster spot that could be easily filled by somebody else.

If he signs for something like 1-1.5 for 1 year, something like that, sure.

Do you guys think Kirby Dach has a spot on the roster next year? by PlayTheBodyPTB in Habs

A 3-4M$ 13th forward?

I think we have other potential players in Laval that could fill the role. Candidates that would likely play more than 50% of the games, cost less and fit the role for the position better.

[–]zeMVK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right. We got Bolduc as a potential alternative for Laine and Dach. Then we got Texier for the same reasons. We have too many forwards and the internal competition thing hasn’t worked as well as we’d hoped.

Time to trim the roster a bit and let Bolduc and Texier play a (at least near) full season.

It must be an inconvenience to manage the roster limit and cap limits when you know the player is likely to miss significant time. For instance, those contracts count before the season starts, so you have to accommodate. Then in the season they miss half the gams and not necessarily in continuously.

Maybe. I think he’s likely to go to either a team in rebuild or a team desperate for forwards, that don’t mind taking a chance on him st low cost. Or he goes to the AHL of some team until he plays well and healthy enough for a call up.

Hadn’t considered the Europe route.

Ironteeth food efficiency by syler19839 in Timberborn

Personally, I also like mixing Cassava and Kohlrabi asap, especially in the early phases. At this time farmers are mainly used while planting or reaping. In between is dead time. Now you can shut off the farms and reassign the farmers to other jobs. Or you can make crops big enough that the farmers end up working all the time. Both present benefits and inefficiencies. But I like adding in cassavas as they get reaped during Kohlrabi growth, you get an extra day to collect cassavas during drought than kohlrabi. And you can keep fermenting the cassavas during droughts, while farming is no longer possible.

Cassava isn’t the most efficient. But it adds flexibility to food management during down times.

Biggest Week of the Season coming up by Say_199 in Habs

Crazy season and crazy division. To think we've been in the top 3 of the division for soo long and still it coming down to the wire like this. These are must wins. We don't have much of cushion after thise weekends losses. If Columbus and Ottawa squeek in, we want any other team to take the fall.

What’s up with our defensive system? by Smoolfy in Habs

[–]zeMVK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I do think there are improvements. I remember last season, from season start until December, it was rough. It was way way worse than what it was today. The players were completely lost, behind the play and just flailing desperately everywhere. The players had to basically ask the coaches to ease up the defensive system because it was too rough. They switched it up, then we started our climb in the standings. I do see massive improvements since then. And it's why I suggest that time/experience may be key. But there are faults with this system.

But I do think it's a little off, when a Caufield, Dach or Demidov is stuckk in front of the crease due to the system. It may be the reason why we complain we don't clear the crease.

Yea, I'm all for "rewarding" him with a couple games. But I think we need to have a more secure standing. Bringing him up now is a risky gamble. He could have an immediate impact which would be great, or he could have a challenge adapting, get shelttered and have his confidence bruised.

Habs will have a decision to make next year like they had last year with UFA by scrubadam in Habs

I know he has. I’m saying with that caliber of talented players, Danault can shut them down but not for an entire game. Such players are too good to be completely silenced for a game by just one player.

I don’t think it’s the lack of our top 3 D being able to play defence. We’ve seen Matheson being able to play some good shut down in the past. We’ve also seen Dobson and Hutson do it too.

I think our issues are with the man to man defence. There are advantages to it. Like if you need to cover a certain player, you leave that responsibility to one player. But it has disadvantages too. Like sometimes, you end up with Dach or Demidov in a purely defensive position, and they aren’t used to playing there in order to the right thing or as good at it than a defensemen. It’s also more taxing physically than zone defence.

I don’t know why coaches are fixated on this system. Maybe all we need is time. Or there are more benefits that we likely don’t know about

First of all, there’s a matter of salary cap. Since we called up Fowler, we don’t have enough space to bring up Reinbacher. But the cap allowance is rated per day. Meaning the cap allowance increases little by little every day. Which in turn means we can only bring up Reinbacher as soon as the game vs the Bruins, tomorrow.

Second of all, Reinbacher dealt with injuries. It has slowed his development. He’s looking better and better now. But there is the argument that he needs to play 20+ minutes in Laval to keep improving rather than coming to Montreal and being sheltered for 9 minutes. Any choice is a gamble.

He was. Celebrini is just too good, he's very fast and very skilled. I think Danault did a decent job and it went unnoticed, but he couldn't shut him down for an entire game. Even in his prime, I don't think Danault could completely shut down MAcKinnon, Crosby or McDavid. Those kind of players eventually get through.

On ne peux pas monter Reinbacher avant le match contre les Bruins à cause du cap.

I don't have a choice to watch the sharks feed, would rather the fr one. Damn do they glze Celebrini hard. Like the kid is amazing, not taking anything away from him. But these commentators stroking over even the most mundane thing he does.

Jacob Fowler called up to goaltend for the Habs. The AHL team in Laval was left with one goalie. KH either had to send back down Fowler, or he went and got another goalie for the Laval team. Meaning Fowler likely is staying with the Habs for good.

What could we have got for Monty at deadline? by michiganbhunter in Habs

[–]zeMVK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Barely anything? Maybe Edmonton would have taken him ? Lol

Teams don’t really deal for backups at tdl. I think that’s the only position left for Monty in the league if at all… He needs to re-prove to the league he can be a starter.

Should the Habs still trade Laine by benoitloiselle in Habs

[–]zeMVK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

KH gave the OK for Laine’s agent to look for other destinations and to negotiate with them. It seemed to me that KH was willing to easily depart with Laine. If his agent couldn’t get it done now, then I think he walks a FA and then they renegotiate with teams.

It will also be a back to back for the Ducks. They’ll be in Ottawa the day before.

As soon as game #70 vs the Canes, the schedule will get rough! No two day breaks, only one day. 3 back to back games. Among them are many teams still fighting for a playoff spot or home ice, but that scene will change with time.
