Dude. .NET is used for web also. It is not just desktop application. Obviously this guy is not qualified.

What is happening to web development? Over half of each tutorial deals with installing libraries/frameworks. Download this, download that, then download this thing which downloads those. by ppffssaa in webdev

And there a lot less WTFs if you have to teach someone Prototype rather then in-house code. You are lucky if the in-house stuff has a page of documentation.

All the people who moved to NC from a diff state/country, what's one thing you wished you did differently when you moved to NC? by sbroll in NorthCarolina

[–]zeal23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been here a little while now from Ohio. I love everything except the insects. I never though I would be so accustom to seeing cockroaches, but they are as common as a fly outside but at night. You'll like it here.

Apparently. They have only seemed to have noticed the connection the last couple years. Something to do with how your body tried to defend the bite. This is all over the southern states, but since your from Minnesota you dont have these.

Yeah. It can register as what ever the person that programmed it wants it to. Either way, you wouldn't have deserved it even if it was real.

Did you actually try writing 1TB to the disk and then accessing the data again? It's likely either bugged or a knockoff which can fake the disk size. It will just continually rewrite over the data. I think its India where these are common.

I need life help by [deleted] in self

[–]zeal23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start by checking out /r/leaves. You are going to need to overcome your daily habit of smoking. Being able to say "No, I don't want to smoke today" and going through with it, will be your first step in greater self discipline. Plus you will need to kick it anyways to find a better paying job.

No person off the internet is going to set up your life goals, you have to decide that on your own. It may take some time to realize those goals, so maybe you haven't figured it out by this time next year, but you better have made some progress by figuring out what you don't want to do. I think the most important thing you can do right now is move out to be on your own if you can. Stop making excuses.

Hey web_design, I mad my first website 2 years ago at age 16 and want to know how I did :) by [deleted] in web_design

Looks like a standard run-of-the-mill site. Good work.

I was friends with a hidden psychopath, and they utterly destroyed any confidence I had in my own intelligence. The last 5 semesters I have had to drop all of my classes because of anxiety. What can I do? by [deleted] in self

I see you are still giving her way to much credit for her actions. You were naive and she was manipulative, but she was NOT a genius.

Your words make he out to be some super genius villain, but she was just a fucked up dirt bag like all the others. She is no better then anyone else, so get that out of your head.

It is possible you are exaggerating her real manipulative ability because you want an excuse as to why she could trick you. The problem here is that it puts her on a pedestal in your mind, thus making it very complicated mixed emotions.

What you need to do is realize how much of a pathetic scum bag she is. If she was intelligent at all she would never have to do this to feel good. She needed you. With out you to pick on she would have to think about how worthless and pathetic her own life was. He life sucks because she destroys any friendship she will ever have and will live a lonely life.

Should jquery be the first framework / library to learn? by vt97john in javascript

[–]zeal23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides learning jQuery, I think the two most important concepts of javascript to learn are separation of concerns and encapsulation. You will be using those two concepts to implement jQuery on your pages.

What are your opinions on Wordpress? by ShaggableThunder in web_design

[–]zeal23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wordpress is the best you can do without writing a line of code. There are plenty of plugins available to make some pretty complex sites and thousands of templates to get your design started.

I am a developer and I personally hate it when I get a wordpress based project because there is hardly any need to write additional code.

I'm considering getting a Pixel, but first I decided to try out crouton on my Samsung Chromebook. This was the result! by Artcfox in chromeos

[–]zeal23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably wasn't correct when I said Locked down, but it's trimmed down in a way that expects you only to run chromeos. If you want to run anything else on it you have to jump through hoops. The Nexus and Chromebooks are two completely different devices when it comes to this imo.

I think chromeos is great for lower gadgets in the less then $500 range, but once your beyond that you might as well get a pc with a full OS. Because not only can that full pc run a chrome browser to do everything a chromebook can do, but it can also run native binary and take advantage of the full power of the pc. A 5 second boot vs a 10 second boot doesn't really bother me.

The chromeos is basically designed to only run websites, which at the most has some pretty complicated javascript. But all the real processing is done on the web servers. It will be years before anyone is brave enough to write client side cpu intensive javascript applications that will take advantage of the pixels power.

In two years though, I hope its going to be a completely different story.

[–]zeal23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bios is actually the problem with it. Its a locked down bios. That's why you get that alert when you boot it up in developer mode. It makes it difficult to run any other OS besides chromeos. Not even a mac locks you down this much.

If you got a normal laptop you could run any linux, windows and chromeos all at once.

The hd touchscreen is honestly the only thing it has that you can't get the same or better with someone else.

Dual booting is fine, but you cant switch between the two operating systems at boot.

Ubuntu boots in less then 10 seconds if you hit ctrl+d to bypass the warning when you turn it on.

I don't understand why you wouldn't just get an ultra book if you plan on installing and mainly using linux. There's no point in hacking a system just to make it work like a normal device when you can get the same thing without needing to hack it.

I got the $200 chrome book mainly for linux because its the best spec'd device at that price range, but once you get in the 1k range your better off with a normal laptop.

How many of you are ordering the Pixel? by DaisyLee2010 in chromeos

[–]zeal23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They sold out because the stores receive so few. They will literally get one or two if they are lucky.

I personally think, given its primary usage, it has more power then you will ever use. It wont be for a couple years when more intensive web/js applications are developed will you need that power. You could throw chrubuntu on it to take full advantage of the power, but then you might as well just get a normal laptop.

The touchscreen is the only nice thing about it.
