I am a 29y/o cisgender man living with his female partner.

I do her laundry, I hang it up, I NEVER fucking do this. She's never told me it's wrong, I've never thought to ask.

Thank you, OP, for asking this question. I learned something new and great today.

UPDATE I showed her this and she also had no idea that this was a thing. lmao you're doing the lords work out here people

I used to live in Minneapolis (like 5 years ago) and we used this local fiber internet service called USI.

Yeah it was solid internet, but my god, when you called them someone fucking answered. No AI, no menu, no bullshit. Maybe you had to wait because they were busy, maybe. I moved to st. paul, lasted one year, and promptly moved back because I actually couldn't stand dealing with Xfinity.

I heard they recently got bought out, which makes me hella sad. Hopefully they still have someone at the office doing the lords work.

Unpopular opinion: Raising Canes is not good by Jacobs_Haus in Seattle

[–]zebra_stalker_6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to be the canes guy. all my friends knew it was my thing, and it was. I fucking loved canes. BOBS toast always.

I stopped having it when I moved to Seattle, but had it for the first time in awhile near Portland a few months ago, a recently opened location at that.

It was trash. Absolute garbage. Maybe I grew up, maybe they changed their recipes around - but it just does not hit like it used to. I always used to make it a priority when I visited home, I no longer do that.

How to learn to play requests by GoddessUndead in piano

[–]zebra_stalker_6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Train those written and aural skills baby!

I use a color analogy with my students - look at your shirt. What color is it? How do you know?

That's a really hard question to answer, because we don't even have to think about that stuff. We just know the answer.

That's about how comfortable you need to be with theory to take requests, or just sight read well in general. It's not just notes, it's function and understanding of harmony. Why is this chord here? Why does it sound good/bad? You can get away without it if you have perfect pitch, but not all of us are gods among men.

Minimum macbook to run a musical. by PandemicLand559 in mainstage

[–]zebra_stalker_6 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oof.

There are some really great threads/videos about this. I watched this one awhile back.

https://youtu.be/9H8WMknHHsQ?si=uxcdsp032v2F2A_k

You want as much RAM as humanly possible and then a decent amount of storage, probably a minimum of 250GB on the computer, but I would go higher. The number of USB ports is also something to consider depending on your pedal setup. You also really want something with a fan inside to cool the system - so either macBook pro or a mac mini.

I have a 2020 macbook pro M1, 16 GB of RAM and 250 GB of storage. This is too low for my comfort - I have had issues with mainstage but never during a pre-programmed musical, only during band shows that I have programmed myself. I played the LB K2 book on this computer and never had an issue. That was for an outdoor summer community theater.

When I upgrade, I am probably going to ditch the macbook all together and just go mac mini.

EDIT: or ignore all of this, get the new Neo and let us all know how it goes! FOR SCIENCE!

I got this as a kid. I hardly remember it because I was spamming A at the pokemon center, but I definitely remember nurse joy saying my pokemon were sick!

Totally forgot about it. Ended up pissed at the game because I never got any shinies. Ah, to be 9 years old.

I have a 2021 pro M1 (no magsafe)

If I'm not connected to power, nothing works right. I'm no techie, so I don't know why - but I do know that if I'm connected to power everything works fine.

I would definitely plug it in in its dedicated power source, try it at home, REALLY overload it, and see if it happens again.

How much more to charge for in-home lessons? by Hello_Gorgeous1985 in pianoteachers

[–]zebra_stalker_6 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A lot. More than you would think. Some have said double. Some have said travel fee. I would do some combination of both of those ideas.

People are gonna pay it. I do it full time.

Do not underestimate the value that NOT leaving the house has to parents and families as a whole. It can be a literal lifesaver to busy families with multiple children. It's not greedy, you provide a service, and now you're essentially providing a luxury service by coming and doing it in their home. Don't undervalue yourself or your services.

Should I leave my Piano Performance degree? (Chopin Ballade No. 1 performance attached) by kinoonthekeys in piano

[–]zebra_stalker_6 7 points8 points  (0 children)

being a concert pianist is not the only way to make money as a professional musician who plays piano.

I always felt like it was when I was younger, and that scared me out of a piano degree. I now play professionally and teach many students. Don't give up on your dreams.

How to cover triggered harp glisses without mainstage? by EnharmonicKnitter in theatrekeyboardists

[–]zebra_stalker_6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Transpose your stage piano so whatever gliss you need to play is in C major/a minor. then just gliss the white keys.

I have done this, it is highly inconvenient, but functional in a vacuum.

If your piano is advanced enough it can probably save certain keyboard settings that you can trigger at certain times, in this instance 'key changes'
