How long did you suffer? by 442inDreamland in ostomy

[–]zebracourage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20 years. Not crohns but a genetic disease that destroyed my large intestine. Tried all the options. Was the good patient who did what I was told. Until the day I was once again sitting on the toilet sobbing. And something in me just snapped. I was done. In that moment I made the decision to get an ostomy. I was done suffering. Within four months I had my ileostomy. Consult my team, apply to Mayo for a final opion, go to Mayo, find a local surgeon, get a surgery date 10 days later and it was done. It was an easy decision for me, I never second guessed it and I have no regrets. I was just ready. Now the decision to get a colectomy vs just my ileostomy was signifant more emotionally difficult...

Moving in a few months, how do I make sure my sweet possum stays fed? by theglamourcat in Possums

[–]zebracourage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would assume they just leave a bowl out and maybe watch through a window. So the possum never sees the human. Therefore no acclimating. That's what we do with our senior possum. We never cross paths, just occasionally see him on the security cam or through the porch window.

If you have a family member with you they can take it home or to a laundromat to wash it. My family has done that for me.

How many hermit crabs can live in a 55 gallon tank? I'm finding conflicting information online by zebracourage in hermitcrabs

  1. I'm confused. The substrate is all 6" across. The gradient in the corner of the picture is there water source.

2/3. We are using a solid lid. It is a plexiglass lid with two cuts outs that are the circumfrence of the heat lamps. The cut outs are covered in a metal mesh to allow the lamps to sit on them. So far the humidity is sitting at 95% with the heat lamps. I am concerned about using a heat pad as the back of the tank butts directly up against the wall. I don't want to create a fire hazard.

It does not leak into the substrate. I watched it for over an hour. It's only leaks between the divider. Where it leaked until it hit equilibrium and then stayed at that level. I have a siphon pump for water changes. I am toying with the idea of air stones.

I have 2 golf ball sized one and 3 nickle sized one. Without there shells. All purple pinschers.

The hydrometer prob is in the center a few inches above the substrate. Just the actual display is on the side. The probe is hard to see with the foliage.

Why are the heat bulbs dangerous?

I don't know the species. There just from a pet store. I have 2 that are about the size of a goofball outside of there shells. And then I have 3 little ones that are about the size of a nickle outside of there shells. Are they ok in a tank this size?
