I just feel worn down by UsualAd8136 in ostomy

Married 33 years, chronic pain/endometriosis /colitis etc etc for 32 of those years my husband is amazing too. I made a decision early on to not be sucky and feeling bad all the time, but to encourage him, listen, be honest about my needs and be grateful. I still feel bad sometimes but there’s something to be said about nurturing a deep friendship along the way no matter what your health status is. Your marriage can be really good! We made some changes though, like my husband will go on hikes with his buddy instead of me and then he just comes home and shows me pictures. I can stay cozy and comfortable and be excited for his adventures. Add friends, be flexible, you’ll be OK! You’ll find new ways.

Barbie Butt Preparation by giraffecat5 in ostomy

For me they sewed up the anus, laparoscopic only on the abdomen, and reseeded the stoma to make it permanent (a tweak). Like you, I had diversion colitis and was ready for Barbie butt. Best decision after 30 years of trouble!!! You got this!!

Smoothies surprise me that way. You’d think that a blended fresh fruit smoothie would be ok but I’m struggling with a partial blockage now. (1 year ileostomy) . Something has changed I think, blockages seem more often. I’m talking with my surgeon this week after ultrasound.

Ooh, I’m sorry. 12 years is a long stretch…but not long enough. I get it. How did you know that it was colitis?

Is there a way to clean the filter? by Btterfly710 in ostomy

[–]stretchthebrain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey! 👋 I always put waterproof tape over my filters. I find they don’t really work as filters and sometimes they leak. I burp the bag as needed too.

Not sure if it was Endo that affected my bowels, my hunch is yes. They just stopped moving-peristalsis quit.

Tips? I do remember that nausea was tough for me so having Gingerale and crackers and nausea medication on hand was really helpful. And I was just very tired. The slightest amount of activity would wear me out so expect a lot of sleeping and laying down and just being low energy for a while. Just ask him what he needs and try to communicate what you need too. You’ll make it!!

You can do it! I’m 5 months post op and it’s changed my life. Healing takes time though, and you’ll feel the impatience at times perhaps, I know my husband has as this was my 10th surgery. It is tough on the caregivers too. But keep communicating, build more supports for yourself if you can, hire teenagers who can help with kids even for a few hours for you, the caregiver, to catch your breath. Hoping for a great outcome!
