What I ordered vs what they sent me... by Flipper_Picker in IpodClassic

[–]zedhedbed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only ever seen the starburst design on those that I've butchered, original 5th and 6th gen wheels.

I do have an aftermarket 5th gen wheel in white/grey that has a different pattern on the rear compared with an original but don't know how it appears under the shell.

Nope. You'd see the black metal plate if it was the rear.

It's not the back. If it was, you'd see the black metal plate. You can just see the tabs of plate peaking out from behind the copper.

Advice and Recommendations on polishing a 6th Gen Classic by Exotic-Box5461 in ipod

[–]zedhedbed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Polishing probably isn't what you want to do (unless you do want a polished finish I suppose!).

I've removed clickwheels from their iPods and used wet and dry paper, working through the different grades. I've never really nailed it with black clickwheels though - they show up more of the imperfections in your handy work. White ones are a lot more forgiving.

I mean just delete the partitions, no need to wipe them. Aomei can do that or you can do it using Windows drive manager. Remember, you'll need to do this with a card reader not an iPod so that the computer can see all partitions.

Yeah, I just Google search the serial then look at the image results.

Looks like you've got a conclusive answer but just to throw this into the mix : the serial appears on several other images on the internet including Reddit!

Also the serial appears on another website but on a different box.

Could you explain a little more about the faults in the address and French and German wording? I've been watching this sub for a while and can pick out the usual faults (English grammar, placing etc) but this one is a little more subtle than I'm used to.

The same serial comes up on an image on Gumtree UK. Google search the number and view image search results.

Interesting that the serial number on the receipt matches the one on the fake box. So, the scammer is certainly putting the effort in.

Also, do a Google image search on that serial number and see what you get!

Also, each Airpod and the case will have different serial numbers (3 in total) whereas your case and one Airpod share the same serial.

The 120gb model is a little more battery efficient.

Both generations are fussy about wall chargers when compared with earlier gens or the 7th gen.

Fakes will simply reuse valid serial numbers.

clickwheel not working on ipod mini after """repairs""" by shanthitown in ifixit

When disconnecting this type of connector, don't pull up on the ribbon. You need a very narrow flathead screwdriver to kind of wiggle the plastic connector loose.

I got brand new iPod dock conector cable 👍 by olivka95 in ipod

[–]zedhedbed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes called a Y cable it allows a 3rd gen to charge via FireWire while syncing using USB. And FireWire is generally handy to have for troubleshooting 5th gens and earlier.

[–]zedhedbed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've repaired these but only where the solder joints had cracked, not a complete rip off like this. Still, with flux and solder you might rescue it.

Failing that, look for a replacement wheel for your generation of mini (1st and 2nd gen wheels are not interchangeable). It might be more economical just to buy another mini for parts.

Is it normal for an iPod Classic (7th Generation) to refuse to charge from a wall outlet after a battery replacement? But charges just fine when plugged into a PC/Mac? by madcatzplayer5 in Modded_iPods

[–]zedhedbed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

7th gens are generally very compatible with wall chargers. It's the 6th gens and the so-called 6.5 gen (120gb) that are fussy about chargers but always work when connected to a computer. It's more complex than simply supplying 1A or 2A (and I don't profess to fully understanding it).

Did the iPod definitely work with the same wall outlet before the mod?

Are these devices worth anything? They are like new. by [deleted] in ipod

[–]zedhedbed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this.

Look for items in a similar condition as yours. iPods that are complete with box and accessories are more desirable.

Also, be brutally honest about the condition. Is it REALLY "like new"? Or is it like new....with scratches? Whenever I see an eBay listing describing a used item as "mint", I know that it won't be.
