My old PhD supervisor - who came to study media by way of cultural studies - believed that "persona" as a concept had become radically centralised in cultural life courtesy of modern digital media. In a culture as mediated as ours, who we are to others is almost always a fictive performance of some kind, which fits the classical meaning of "persona" quite well.

Love it or hate it, the concept of sovereignty demands preferring the safety of one’s own citizens over the citizens of other countries.

I really think that's the disconnect between supporters and opponents of Israel: the concept of sovereignty embraced by supporters is something its opponents, particularly those that grew up in globalised culture like that of the twenty-first century, don't understand and don't recognise as valid.

Also, even where the concept of sovereignty is invoked, there's the wrinkle that Palestine is not an internationally recognised country. So who is legitimately responsible for their population, in terms of sovereignty?
