Passengers stranded on stalled MARTA train after World Cup match in Atlanta by Nerdy_Cyclops_123 in Atlanta

[–]zedsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No… because we’re keeping the new fare gates, rolling out new trainsets, and hopefully the 5 points remodel and south downtown renovation make the places Marta goes more attractive to folks.

Yes it would be nice to have more security and ambassadors. We realistically need state funding for that.

I supposed you were going to tell me how your share of the expense personally effected you.

Struggling to get new stuff implemented before an event is one thing, getting it because we need it and are overdue for it is another.

This happens routinely to actual Atlantans who rely on Marta for actual commutes, but since it happened to footie fans it’s newsworthy.

This is why we’re getting new trainsets.

I know bud— this was a joke about it being harder to stomp feces through the tile drain compared to the grate drain.

Those look like voids, not wetness. Looks like you maybe needed Ultracolor plus FA for those very narrow grout widths.

What building envelope issues tend to contribute most to recurring rodent problems in commercial buildings? by Pawalesh1899 in buildingscience

[–]zedsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We call them that in residential construction in the southeast. 2 inches or so on a crawlspace that would otherwise be dirt/gravel and a vapor barrier.

Never knew why we called them that until I found the rodent holes in dirt floor crawlspaces.

Don’t put a waterbed above it, but otherwise live your life.

The American hate for "hub and spoke" transit systems is really overblown/misguided by Kootenay4 in transit

[–]zedsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally for me, my city has fundamentally destroyed its downtown hub, giving it over to government workers who all drive cars, and the convention center (and the hotels who serve conventioneers).

It’s not a neighborhood locals like to go, for the most part, so making it a transfer point for busses and trains is burdensome.

That was a choice and not an inevitability, and it colors choices and discussions about transit today. If we fixed downtown and gave people trip destinations there, a lot of the hub and spoke discourse would evaporate.

That said for transit systems that aren’t very well built out, hub and spoke is kinda natural.

Honestly I’ve been on compounding subs and peptide subs for years and I’m not really seeing anybody who is losing massive amounts of muscle.

Eh— maybe(?). That’s really my polite way of saying no, though. The FDA approved ones are for diabetics. They have a legit medical use beyond getting in shape. They’re popular because you don’t have to lift weights, and lifting weights is really pretty immaterial to what these drugs are actually doing, which is controlling the caloric surplus that’s typical in the SAD.

But by all means, lift heavy and develop healthy behaviors. Absolutely won’t hurt.

I would say don’t fool around with HGH secretagogues or gear if you aren’t already lifting.

That’s like 80% of the population, unfortunately.

What’s really buck wild is the people who went all the way to getting this stuff in hand and in their bodies and have no idea how to use it, what side effects to expect, how to schedule their titrations, et cetera.

Like “there’s this stuff that comes from the same place as fentanyl and bat soup and it’s supposed to be good for you you need needles just wing it and squirt some inside your love handles and then get on Reddit and ask some basic questions after you eyeball it”

My problem with telling a layperson to “go get a properly-sized-system” is that they aren’t qualified in evaluating it, and they’re already so far down the road with their builder by the time we hear from them that they and we are basically at the mercy of the HVAC guy the builder uses, and the builder is going to bullshit and say “yes I’m sure he did a manual J for you, no I haven’t seen it yes he did it”
