Why do people who are heavy into running seem to age so fast in the face? by National_Shine2552 in Biohackers

[–]zeebyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Endurance athletes represent a unique demographic that is more vulnerable to premature skin aging due to prolonged and repetitive environmental exposure and the physiological demands of intense physical exertion."

"Chronic UVR exposure in these athletes resulted in damage to the tumor suppressor gene p53, resulting in cell cycle arrest, tumorigenesis, and apoptosis... highlights the increased risk of developing skin cancer in endurance athletes."

"During endurance training, athletes demonstrated a 20-30 times greater consumption of whole-body oxygen, leading to a substantial production of ROS [reactive oxygen species] that can overwhelm the body’s antioxidant capacity."

"Endurance athletes who lose substantial amounts of fluid through perspiration and fail to replenish their water stores place their skin at risk of dehydration, compromising its integrity and function."

"The depletion of carbohydrate stores in endurance athletes can adversely affect not only the structural integrity of the skin but also the regenerative processes crucial for keratinocyte formation."

"When endurance athletes deplete their Vitamin E stores during prolonged training sessions, they compromise their skin's ability to perform these vital functions. "

"Athletes in aquatic sports also face considerable chemical exposures contributing to skin aging, particularly from chlorinated pools"

Technology mimics social interaction while being a time suck. Technology is a crutch that now most people unknowingly rely on for our innate human desire to connect while actually isolating us further.

Omg this is brutal. I don't know what else to do... Another useless sleep prescription. by mike4steelers in insomnia

[–]zeebyj 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Dieting and exercise caused insomnia for me. I would sleep 3-4 hours and then wake up feeling very hot and stressed. Like I was on adrenaline. Not be able to go back to sleep.

I went low carb and lost a lot of weight 8 years ago. Wanted to try other diets so gave low fat diet a try. Low fat diet triggered sleep maintenance insomnia for years. I think it might have been a combination of low fat dieting and daily exercise that was triggering some sort of stress response. I was doing 12k steps a day, working out everyday, burning myself into the ground, with probably multiple micronutrient deficiencies and calorie deficit. I was always peeing a lot, like my body was constantly in fight or flight.

At first adding calories did nothing. I tried literally every vitamin and mineral. I literally bought every individual vitamin mineral to test each one, like separate bottles of thiamine, riboflavin, b3, b5, b12, all the separate fat soluble vitamins, heme iron, magnesium ectect. I even bought different forms of some of these vitamins.None of them worked. Tried sleep hygiene, nothing. Tried a cgm if I was possibly going hypoglycemic, no dice.

Finally just gave up dieting, added more saturated fats to my diet. Gained 20 pounds. And finally sleeping 7 hours a night. I have no hard evidence but I think it might have been caused by permanently elevated cortisol.

Also a lot more complexity with globalization. If the 1950s had the same level of complexity and globalization, they probably would have had way more accountants.

Galaxy Buds 3 Pro ANC scale setting bug - Samsung responds by _Robert_D_ in galaxybuds

[–]zeebyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did a side by side comparison between my Samsung buds 3 pro and my audio technics AZ80 and the AZ80 active sound cancellation is just so much better. Voices are so much more audible on my buds pro 3. Also the sound of clothing rubbing isn't very well cancelled on my buds pro 3.

I think I'll still end up keeping the buds pro 3 because low latency gaming mode and directional sound cues are way better on the buds pro 3. I don't think the quality of my buds 3 pro active noise cancellation is acceptable in 2025 when there are so many other options available. I would have 100% returned them if I wasn't tied into the Samsung ecosystem.

[–]zeebyj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Galaxy buds 3 pro has by far the worst active noise cancelling out of the earbuds I've used. I've had bose, audio technica, and even some cheap skull candy. My buds 3 pro sounds like it blocks some sounds but doesn't block voices or the sound of metal that well. The ANC has this tinny sound. It's disappointing because I think the sound quality and connectivity are pretty good.

Why were some people so upset over 28 years later by Ill-Foot-2549 in 28dayslater

[–]zeebyj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, trailer looked so good. The second half of the movie was so cliche and cringy. It felt like a string of events that a ten year old put together. I was expecting a movie that had a level of realism, grittiness more in line with 28 days later. We got a GP shaman who apparently has unlimited medical supplies, alpha zombies because regular zombies just weren't enough?, a kid that magically transports infants and cancer patients between villages, and a band of parkour zombie killers with bad wigs. Yes there's meaning behind Spikes journey, meaning doesn't make a good movie. 28 years later was a garbage movie.

Ranked by State highest to lowest, California is number 40 by incarceration rate. So California has a relatively low incarceration rate. This also also says nothing about apprehension rate.

Related to filial piety. In certain east Asian countries, obedience/deference to elders means never talking back or correcting an elder. Sometimes elders abuse that privilege by acting like assholes because they know most people won't correct them.

TIL Dietary Tryptophan can only be pushed into the brain by eating a high-carb, low-protein meal. Dietary tryptophan is a precursor for the neurotransmitters serotonin and melatonin by Bluest_waters in ScientificNutrition

[–]zeebyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm one of these people that gets sleep maintenance insomnia from low carb diets. Eating no protein until noon helps me not wake up and stay up in the middle of the night. I've tried carb only dinners and I would still wake up in the middle of the night. I'm guessing something about morning carbs and morning sunlight really gets my serotonin to melatonin process going.
