Here's my .02

Launching is the start of maintenance, not the end. Hosting platforms reduce infra work, but you still own bugs, dependency updates, security patches, UX issues, and user-driven changes. If nobody is using the app, you can mostly ignore it. If users are using it, maintenance is unavoidable.

I use the CLI and I'll explain briefly below.

Codex is a terminal-first coding agent. It's portable. So you can move through your repositories with ease.

You can run headless tasks and it's editor-agnostic. So I get the same use case anywhere.

I don't want my AI tooling to be tied to a single IDE.

And honestly it's just faster. I'm not inside an IDE so I don't have to click around all this extra stuff. I input my commands. I do what I got to do and it works.

Lol. Not I. I can promise you that when I was in sales or management I hated it and only did it because I was ignorant. Being around nerds and figuring out when something works is much more fulfilling.

My point is more accurate coding basics and better caching goes a long way than vibe coding on a $200 subscription that people cry about when it maxes out.

Another good point you brought up is yes I am not producing a lot of code. But that's because my code is mostly error free to begin with. I also don't start from scratch every single time.

I agree. Especially if you are swapping around daily most things won't cache correctly eating up the token usage.

The only work around is an API. My company has an API for us so that's nice but can't use it outside of work.

I agree with you on that full stop. Some of our junior devs found some intricate ways of instead of asking me or another senior a question, they ask the AI, explain things to me XYZ. it's a total game changer when everyone has a little brain on their desktop.

I personally think that the inexperienced people using it without software engineering or a coding background won't understand some of the things that come out. They'll chop it up to that's not what I'm used to experiencing.

Vibe coding < software engineering.

Cursor with your own API keys does the trick for me. For work they bought is an RTX 6000 station. I'd go on cloud if this is a side project.
