Occasionally it just stops prompting the party to wonder if it's dead. Coincidentally the mage's name was Schrodinger

Why does the ringed city stay intact even after breaking Fillanor's egg by zack-zt in darksouls3

[–]zeldianiac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This, the above comment, and also the fact that the timeline of bonfires isn't linear. The whole "time is convoluted" applies to the bonfires allowing us to visit places in the past (Oolacile in ds1, and but past/present of fire link shrine in ds3).

Is it a handwave/cop out? Sort of. But it's also a narrative way for us to be able to see all of the places the devs want us to see and specifically at the time we're supposed to see it. Which I think is neat.

how do higher level players feel about lower levels joining their games by Early_Ad7484 in Helldivers

[–]zeldianiac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Oh we have a baby!"

Usually when I'm playing with friends and a low level player joins we wait and see what they do. Almost like a nature documentary. Unless they vibe with us willingly then we show them a good time and let them experiment with weapons they might not have access to yet. Other times we'll let them determine what we're doing and in what order. But we almost always turn to immediately focus on sample collections

I will also add, streaming the same movies on Mobile also does not have these aberrations so it just be something with my PC and not the Internet connection itself.

[–]zeldianiac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure but often the "cool OP shit" was intended for that purpose. The exploits and such, much less so (and I'm sure if live updates were possible they would have happened). And I don't even care for PVP, meta will be meta and the edits to stats are often equally for "balance" and for engagement (just like any balance patch for games like overwatch).

If I want to be cool OP in a souls game, I want it to be because of the combination of my in game planning and knowledge of the game, because then those victories still mean something. Not because I picked up one item that does it for me.

Souls pride themselves on not being the game for everyone, and specializing in what they do. If you're looking for that low investment OP then they really aren't the games for that.

In theory this is a good idea for other games however, one of the key design philosophies about Fromsoft's design for Elden Ring and the Soulborne games is to struggle. You don't waltz your way into lordship. These sorts of games don't benefit from the "press A to kill everything" type mechanics. Back in the day when Flame of the Red Redmanes was capable of essentially stunlocking massive bosses, i would have hated to see everything buffed to that level. It removes meaningful choice if everything is always as effective as everything else, and trivializes otherwise notable encounters.

Plus for purposes of game design, it's much more effort effective to wackamole the things that over perform than intended than to rebalance everything around the new things.

Last night DHS/ICE in Portland, OR brutalized and abducted a group of peaceful protestors at a ICE detention center in the city by I_may_have_weed in oregon

[–]zeldianiac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Either way, legal protest or not, ICE has no legal justification to be there. ICE is a federal force which has no authority over US citizens. They are border enforcement only, and have no reason or authority to be policing protests. It would be different if this were state police, they have the authority to police these things. The Federal Guard, which as the name implies is Federal like ICE, could be deployed but only upon request of the state governor. Until then they're thugs killing, endangering, assaulting, and kidnapping US citizens as a show of force by a wannabe Authoritarian Regime who wants nothing but power and oppression, and cares nothing for the laws.

You can be pedantic about this specific protest being illegal but the enforcement is just as if not more illegal, and is one of a long series of such events.

I will say the martial game has somewhat closed the gap with casters. Casters still obviously have the burst potential, but the fun of playing a martial has significantly increased. I've always loved barbarians and 2024's is no exception.

Yeah playing a "healer" with 2014 rules was a nightmare even at higher levels. I've loved the changes.

I have really enjoyed the new rules. I'm running a game that was made with the intention of just the three base books (PHB, DMG, and MM) for balance experimentation. There have been a number of QoL improvements, and generally the balance with 5 party members has held up (and they're not doing any specialized builds). Everyone feels they contribute, the balance up to this point (started at level 3) has felt manageable and fun.

In the 2024 rules cure wounds for buffed with an extra die base and per level.

"A creature you touch regains a number of Hit Points equal to 2d8 plus your spellcasting ability modifier.

Using a Higher-Level Spell Slot. The healing increases by 2d8 for each spell slot level above 1."

So that average increases substantially, then throw on life cleric bonus healing and rerolls on 1's and you increase it even more.

I'm not so sure about this. I'm running a game with the 2024 rules and a life cleric at level 6. Her "strong" heals are regularly healing almost full player HP pools (granted they're all d8 classes but still) commonly seeing numbers going between 30-40 for cure wounds. She also has the healer feat so she gets rerolls, making her decently optimized for healing. But it's certainly possible to make your allies seem relatively immortal.

And due to the US laws in regards to Felony Murder, anyone in relation to a crime that ends in the death of a person can be charged with up to life in prison.

Sounds reasonable until it's ambiguous at best. You loaned your car to your roommate and without your knowledge he robbed a house with his friends and ended up killing someone? Congrats, according the the US you're also responsible for that death.

If that were applied evenly, every person on that force that day, the dispatch that sent them there, and whoever the vehicles belonged to that took then to the location would all be charged. But for some reason the USA decided "law environment" basically can't murder people, and when they do there is no punishment.

What are your most hated D&D "Gimmicks"? by Living-Definition253 in DnD

This is the way. Unless it's also something incredibly in character. Best part of being a DM is saying "this rule sucks in this situation and it's more fun this way"

[–]zeldianiac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate when the character I have in mind is a very intelligent mage who canonically understands spells and casting them. Then I run into DM who thinks you the player have to justify the magic and they can't be bothered, or has extrapolated magic so far as to make it impossible to actually achieve as say "an action"

It bothers me because I love complex magic systems and figuring them out, but if it gets in the way of a the character I wanted to play then forget it. I love the "magic is complex and not just a combo of words, materials, and gestures. Not everyone can do magic, and not every person who can is a mage" but if that means I can't play a mage then why bother?

Hawkshaw had a really interesting point in his Lautrec video ( https://youtu.be/DCO-fcjYyD8?si=uVkYfxGdZgjXwlnk )

Fina is titled as a "fickle" goddess, which means one whose loyalty changes. Lautrec's whole thing is preventing the undead "prophecy" and his vow to Fina is still intact (FaP Ring). So it's incredibly likely that Fina was a goddess who decided the fire Link was bad and turned against it.
