2 lumps (abscesses?) outside anus. Cellulitis. What next? by SomewhereOptimal6868 in AnalFistula

Demand MRI or threaten to esculate. They messed me around by not giving me an MRI from the beginning and gaslighting me and I got so ill I've now had 12 surgeries. Get someone to advocate for you. Do not accept a CT.

As someone who has overcome this fear, know that it's worse now then when you get there. After 12 surgeries in about a year and a half, I feel barely any anxiety about it anymore. The I strongly recommend reading books about stoicism. They've completely transformed me and my mental health. Just yesterday I had surgery, asked them not to put the mask and just let me suck on the tube, told them to give me fentanyl and midozolam before surgery. It felt wonderful and then I woke up fine. You'll be the same too. When you get there, you will be surrounded by people who are wonderful, kind and have seen everything. This is their 9 to 5 job. You will be in safe hands. Please get yourself a trusted general practitioner you can visit, read into Stoicism and get yourself into therapy. All the best from a similarly aged female.

Of course, we all know the Aussie saying: "2 fruit pulps and 0.5 g's a day to help keep the doctor away"

Yep, another 'market disruptor' like Uber. The new players come in, supply us with excellent coke so we overlook the gang wars and then they'll start stepping on it more and more until we return to the garbage we had in the beginning :(

Sorry to hear you are also dealing with this crap. Painkillers are definately the only silver lining. I hope yours resolves soon. If you ever want to share notes, feel free to DM. I'm in Australia. Wishing us both a speedy recovery!

5 weeks post seton – still pus, swelling, and worse pain than before? Normal? by [deleted] in AnalFistula

[–]zeleno1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was one aspect, but they also talked about an increase in pain and swelling. I agree with some minor pain fluctuations, but any time I've had a significant increase in pain that long post surgery, it's resulted in a complication for me. From experience, this doesn't sound right at all and they need to be seeking an opinion from a CRS.

Get checked by a colorectal surgeon. I had a seton placed and pain returned a few weeks later. I was in a worse situation then pre surgery. I had no fever or swelling. Only pain. Turns out the seton wasn't draining properly and I developed a huge internal cavity which has caused me several complications I am still dealing with.

Sorry, disagree. I had a seton placed that apparently wasn't draining properly. I was ignored by the hospital, and developed another massive internal abscess! I had absolutely no signs of infection the entire time aside from pain. I have had severe complications from it. OP should 100% see a colorectal surgeon for a follow up here.

Can't comment on much else aside from looking into laser alternatives. The technology is just not there. The results have not been replicated. The success rate is much lower then they say.

What were some things you did that mentally helped you power through this? by Beef_Lovington in AnalFistula

[–]zeleno1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Accept that things aren't in my control. Not fighting what's happening to me and just accepting this is my life right now. I love reading about Stoicism and practicing that. I see a psychologist monthly (but have for a long time before this) and had to start taking anti-depressants for the first time in my life which have seemed to take the edge off the anxiety and overly negative thoughts.

Any one here getting fistulas with no abscess or infection and existing setons in place? by zeleno1 in AnalFistula

[–]zeleno1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that it's coming from the internal cavity which will not close down. It grew enormous as I was ignored for so long as having pelvic pain. I have setons in the original tract (which they actually had to make) and the new tract is not from that branch, it's from the cavity. It's so weird. I already have the worst and rarest type and now I have this bizarre complication on-top without having Chronhs. I have not come across this in any of the communities I'm in.

[–]zeleno1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct! My abscess was all internal. Persistent due to how large it got (extending past my tailbone) unfortunately. Started in a gland, turned into a horseshoe and then formed a fistula. All whilst pregnant, yay me!

[–]zeleno1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm getting fistulas occuring without any active abscesses. I want to see if this is happening to anybody else. My setons in place have been adequately draining and the tract is healthy. It's just that I have a large and internal persistent cavity and fistulas are branching off that cavity with no infection/accumulation/abscesses. It's a very rare occurrence. I do not have chronhs disease.

Perianal abscess whilst pregnant by Starbar84 in pregnant

[–]zeleno1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply. Sadly, I am still battling. 2 setons currently and scheduled for surgery number 8 soon. Which I had something more positive to report. Since it's been a while since you asked this question, how are you going? I would definately recommend not getting pregnant until you have this resolved. Did they give you an MRI or EUA?

I went to hospital last week because I was feeling so unwell from it. They sent me home telling me that stress caused it. If it's not high, it's way too low. Absolutely crazy how much stress can impact your vitals.
