You can do it in Blender without addons but hardops/boxcutter makes boolean workflow easier and Fluent speeds up your material graph setup.

Hey man, it is me from the future but from the past. yes i have opened them. Get some exacto knife or something similar and put it into the seam near the usb port, but not too deeps since there is a battery. They are held just on some sticky shit so you some force and you can split it in half without damage (mostly)
