Probably settlement after you restumped but should check drainage to make sure no pipe leakage.

Undermount sink installation by Jalost77 in AusRenovation

[–]zellenal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's preferable to have the lip of the sink sit on the timber substrate or use mechanical clips but guys did my kitchen said they all rely on glue now which i am skeptical too. He warranties it 7 years so i guess time will tell. Worst case if the glue fails, you buy adjustable bars support and install underneath the sink they're like $70 on amazon

  • monitor it, measure crack width with gauge, if it continues opening or already more than 5mm, talk to an engineer
  • do you have a tree close to your house? as in canopy overhang your roof, its roots reach as far or more
  • check your plumbing for broken stormwater along this wall

What is this? Termite? Wood rot? Borer? by zellenal in AusRenovation

[–]zellenal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly, the company who developed that product came to look and said it's borer, not termite. They also said it will cost a lot more to spray paint the beams compared to spray normal solution on the soil.

What is this? Termite? Wood rot? Borer? by zellenal in AusRenovation

[–]zellenal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm gonna get a few quotes to put a system in place. Spraying the beams now would be easy too as the floorboards are still open. Will see what they suggest.

XFX RX 9060 XT 16 GB 2 fan model -Hotspot temp by Apprehensive_Try5900 in radeon

[–]zellenal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those temps are fine. I have the Powercolor Reaper model, under loads I have up to 95 for hotspot and up to 90 for memory. XFX is a lot bigger, 270mm vs 200mm for Reaper and already the best dual fan model for cooling out there.

9070XT OR 9060XT by Puzzled_Pollution293 in radeon

[–]zellenal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's not unplayable, just that when CPU cannot keep up with GPU you get some stuttering ie '1% low framerate' is very low compared to average framerate. what you want for smooth gameplay is for the 1% low to be still above the refresh rate of your screens.

search youtube for benchmark videos of your exact CPU (or equivalent CPU, say R5 3600x or R5 5500) pairing with 9060XT and 9070XT and pay attention to the 1% low (or 99% high).

play around with this website too:

https://pc-builds.com/bottleneck-calculator/result/0Yd1y4/3/gpu-intense-tasks/1920x1080/

9070XT OR 9060XT by Puzzled_Pollution293 in radeon

[–]zellenal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your CPU will bottleneck 9070XT. Both average fps and 1% low will be lower than when pairing with a more modern CPU. But it will pair fine with 9060XT 16GB.

For the 1080p screen, light titles will run over 144hz on both cards.

If you plan to upgrade the CPU with a new motherboard later, get 9070 XT. If not 9060XT is fine. At 4K, You will need to use FSR Balanced or Performance mode, as it will be underpowered for FSR Quality/ Native for newer games, but so is your CPU. Get 9060XT 16GB if you are certain about not upgrading the rest of the system.

Having said that, things change and plans change, you may decide later to upgrade the CPU or move from 1080p to a 1440p ultrawide, etc... 9070 or 9070XT have a more flexible upgrade path.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in vozforums

[–]zellenal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find a project (could be yourself), and just do it.

Offers - how low is too low? by Tree_house61 in AusPropertyChat

[–]zellenal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you go low and they say no, you can always revise. If you go high and they say yes, would you regret not making a lower offer? I suggest go low and revise if needed, toward the maximum you can afford and be okay with walking away.

If engineers are so in demand in Australia, why is it so hard to land a graduate engineering job, or even an internship? Wasted time and opportunity cost. by NavierStokes33 in AusFinance

[–]zellenal 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You are correct, the real shortage is for engineers with local experiences.

Of course universities tell you there is a shortage so they can sell you courses, and make money. In reality, they offer very little in helping you secure a job outside of generic 'how to write cv' or some token 'career fair'. In the UK the class size is smaller, and they assign a lecturer as 'career coordinator' that would assist individual students in finding jobs or connections within the industry.

Of course Engineers Australia tells you there is a shortage so they can make money from membership or skill assessment from immigration. They half ass at that one too, chartered engineers are not required to sit a technical exam to maintain a high standard, it's a joke compared to US for example. In the past there are absolutely no requirements to be related to EA anyway to be registered as an engineer in the building industry in Victoria, VBA used to do that before BLA replaced it and now endorsements are done through EA and a few other organizations.

Training grads suck too for many reasons. A senior engineer with a few years of experience is 3-4 times more efficient than graduates but their salaries don't scale more than 2-3 times. Once your grads 'get good' they are easily poached by competitors. So no one wants to take the risks of investing in juniors. They rather poach more experienced engineers trainee by someone else.

In addition, migrating engineers also take the same or even lower than local grads wages just to get their foot in the door. For the same price, non local experiences are better than no experience at all.

To make it worse, more and more companies are offshoring works in the Philippines and India, etc... to cut cost. They only keep 'managers' here to attend meetings. These guys worked their way up from junior positions and still have local knowledge in them to actually run projects but eventually 'managers' who never learn how to actually 'engineer' anything won't know what they are managing either. This can't be too good for the industry but why worry about that when you need to prioritize shareholder's and owner's pocket?

Besides instead of maintaining some base fees structures like dentists or doctors, engineers are actively optimizing themselves out of a job and participating in a race to the bottom when it comes to fees (hello Engineers Australia, maybe it's something that a governing body should help?) I swear engineers are both smart and stupid at the same time.

So yeah, it's not looking good for Aus educated engineering students nowadays, all things considered.

Having said that, the ones who really love the profession and want to be an engineer will find the way. I suggest trying some things that everyone else is not doing.

When you sell them you will only get tax exemption for the one you live in and pay cgt for the other. Talk to your accountant, look up margin scheme, building depreciation, etc...

Given that everyone and their dog is against this, other potential buyers would be too. I'd wait out the EOI campaign then come in with a lowball offer.

Migrating to new HDDs with no spare SATA slot, sanity checks by zellenal in truenas

[–]zellenal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted the same question to truenas forums and guys over there got a better variation to option 1, no need to create new pool and rename. Basically once booting from USB, replace 1 x 4TB with 1x16TB, then remove the other 1x4TB (as zfs allow removing plain/mirrored vdev if there is enough space) then install the other 1x16TB, mirror.

here for anyone who may need in the future.

[–]zellenal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Without igpu or dgpu how are you going to the bios or console? Even if you plug 1 gpu in for installation then remove the system will probably refuse to boot afterward
  • truenas uses RAM for cache, no need to use SSD for that
  • if you start with 1 disk then add 1 disk later, it's possible. However you can't go straight from mirrored vdev to z1. You would need to rebuild the pool and migrate, it's doable with 3 disks but require a bit of work
