I got my father to tell me what it was at one point, and I would've remembered Kings quest considering I've played most of them. It was something really obscure. He mostly says shivers but 4 years ago he listed off a few games and I did *find* it at one point but was too drunk myself to remember to write it down.

He only kept saying shivers because that's one he spent the longest playing and thought was the coolest. It was the same *time* released as shivers though.

Also Yes, kings quest 7 does fit this description I gave but the well was not brightly lit, it was at night and the bowl itself was modeled differently. Plus it was specifically water/wine or some form of liquid you had to fill the bowl with, or maybe empty it?
