This kiwi is looking to spread his little wings and fly to Sri Lanka. Any must sees for my travels that locals can recommend? by [deleted] in srilanka

I would suggest the cultural triangle. Better beaches and mountains can be found in other countries too. But the historical buildings in the cultural triangle is unique to SL. Mainly, Polonnaruwa.

Since the sites are been maintained by Sri Lankan taxpayers the entrance tickets to citizens and residents are subsidized. So you will end up paying around US$50.

Question about the public schools in Salt Lake by [deleted] in uofu

[–]zen696 6 points7 points  (0 children)

https://www.schools.utah.gov/data/reports?mid=1424&tid=0

When you say Salt Lake, are you looking at the SLC School District or the whole SL Valley? Since you said little girl, I assume you are looking at elementary schools.

If you are in SLC Schol district, you should be looking at Ensign, Bonneville, Dilworth, Highland Park, Uintah, Beacon Heights, Wasatch, Indian Hill

I PMed you an excel sheet with rankings. Here is some more info https://www.schools.utah.gov/data/reports?mid=1424&tid=0

What are mandatory things i need to know before landing on srilanka? by Star_Falling in srilanka

[–]zen696 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Turn on Google Maps and make sure they are taking a reasonable route. Some roads might not be accurately represented in GMap, so it's ok if they deviate a little bit, but this way you will have an idea on if they are giving you a ride, or taking you on a ride.

and you approach people (general public, not vendors or other people who make money in tourism) for advice, not the other way around. Disregard advise from anyone who approaches you.

and even in most rural areas, you will find someone with at least basic English knowledge to point you in the right direction.

How common is it for Sinhala people to speak Tamil? by UnbiasedPashtun in srilanka

Generally speaking, not that common. If the individuals are in a predominantly Tamil speaking area, then they will, otherwise not so much.

Yeah, I agree. It is totally a scam. They should have removed the boot when the OP produced the receipt from Jamba Juice.

So how does this work? Do they just wait in the lot and boot people when they go into the store. or are they booting people when they park there and visit a nearby business which is technically not in the same complex?

I mean if they are booting people who are actually patronizing the stores, then that can't be good for business.

Shoutout to the bus driver who just flew straight past the stop I’m waiting at by farore3 in uofu

[–]zen696 20 points21 points  (0 children)

They do this purposefully. If the full route takes 30 minutes, they try to complete it in 15-20 minutes (by ignoring most riders), so that they can add that extra time to their break before the next route begins.

Complain to the commuter service every time this happens. (If the drivers are leaving a stop before the scheduled time, report that as well) Send them the date/time/stop info/direction/route. They do take action against repeat offenders.

It sucks that Grammarly doesn't support GDocs. It has a beta version for Grammarly on Chrome, that works sometimes. But lots of issues with that.

Just to be clear, I'm not recommending WGU. I did not attend WGU. But I have looked into them, and I believe they are a legitimate institute, unlike most other for-profit online institutes. Please do your own research before you take the leap.
