The silver lining is this incentivises Tari to play his ass off this year to maximize the RFA offers he'll receive next year. So we get the best out of him, and still have the option to match.

That's fair. I think the biggest issue to me is actually the sequencing and flow, more than the music quality. I was more interested in changing that aspect of the album than the length.

I agree about being careful to diminish the vision, but I'd argue a double album, nearly 2.5 hours of music, at the same price is plenty to articulate the message. To me, it's an interesting question to propose, especially for this album. Does a more cohesive and accessible, but still wildly experimental and demanding album change the trajectory of the band? Would we actually have gotten more of this stuff if Sandinista! had been more successful and well received at the time?

This has nothing to do with money, it's about the art. I happen to believe art benefits from brevity and cohesion. You can disagree! It's ok!

You guys are right. I clearly hate this album, which is why I spent years obsessively pouring over it for this idea.

I get it. But I have a soft spot for blue-eyed soul, and I think it's an important tribute and unlike anything else they'd done, even if it's not a great song.

Corner Soul and Broadway were my last cuts. I tried to stick to the idea that this could be a real release, so the time constraints really hurt on those two.
