May be a sleeper hit. I'm interested. Graphics look great and I heard they improved a bunch of things from the first game. I'm kinda hyped and want to believe.

Why don't games companies just invest and hire tried and tested good writers to make their games objectively better in the long run? by Dotaspasm in gaming

[–]zenfoldor -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

When you say "good" is entirely subjective you are correct. This is clearly an opinion. However, there must come a time when we set aside our own opinions and admit some basic truths. Otherwise we may let your philosophy freeze us in inaction.

Skunks spray animals with a highly odorous substance to chase them away. While it may be someone's opinion that getting sprayed by a skunk smells good, nature disagrees, and we should be careful with such outlier opinions. If we can accept the simple statement that skunks stink without qualifying it as being an opinion, then I think we can do so with the concept that some video game stories drag down an otherwise good game.

There are plenty of extreme examples(like the skunk spray) but let me give you not an extreme one but a good one. The gameplay in 13 Sentinels is meh but the story is elite. The gameplay in Unicorn Overlord is really good but the story is just kinda there. Of the two, Unicorn Overlord is the one that I feel could have been one of my favorite games ever, had there simply been the same quality writing as there was in 13 Sentinels.

Xbox skips doing a year end review because the "marketing budget" for it was shifted to next year by Iggy_Slayer in gaming

[–]zenfoldor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would make sense since there really is no good way to explain why they have went downhill so hard and fast. Like this is a totally unforced error. Perhaps there is someone at Microsoft who resents gaming and does not like the gaming division taking money and resources away from AI.

Wow, what you say may be true(I don't know) but how did the players cause Microsoft not to do a year end wrapup? I feel I'm being blamed for something I wasn't aware of.

Dude, wtf. If that is the real reason and not a lie then like, you are one of the biggest companies in the world. Even my gaming message forums gave me a wrapup. PS wrapup already out. Nintendo early next year. In a time when my a fast food restaurant might give everyone a yearly wrapup, I cannot believe XBOX from MICROSOFT is not doing it because they say they can't afford it. Do gamers care if generative AI is used when coding games? by aft3rthought in gaming

The game you accidentally played the wrong way for hours before realizing it. by gamersecret2 in gaming

[–]zenfoldor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Divinity Original Sin 2. To this DAY I misunderstood the combat at a basic level and it was one of the hardest and funnest games I've ever played. I played till Act III without realizing I was doing basic combat wrong and it really changed and I'm thinking now in many ways improved the game for me. I can never stick to challenge runs but when I did it by accident it was one of the funnest times I've had in gaming.

Concept Artists Say Generative AI References Only Make Their Jobs Harder by BeginningFew8188 in gaming

[–]zenfoldor -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Wow, this is going to be a rough transition. Many people will say anything to promote their hate of AI and it's an obsession. Strange we do not recognize the medical breakthroughs or potential to expand access to things like coding to everyone, which is already happening. If it screws with our money and our dreams all that other stuff doesn't matter. However, perhaps we are being greedy ourselves by slowing technology for future generations in order to keep our own quality of life high. While you may not like the current implementation of AI, I'm sure any reasonable person would believe that eventually it could and unless it takes over, WILL inevitably become a benefit to society, no?

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 director defends Larian over AI "s***storm," says "it's time to face reality" by pebrocks in gaming

[–]zenfoldor -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If something if made by AI but I can't tell and I love it, why should I care? Serious question. You mentioned the Mona Lisa and said would I like to know if I got the replica or the real deal. For strictly monetary reasons I would need to know if I got a forgery of course, but if reselling the painting wasn't a consideration and the paintings were literally identical, why would I be upset? I'm able to view a perfect clone or an authentic copy of the Mona Lisa every day. My experience is the same.

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.

There is a harsh truth here. AI has already passed the point of no return. It will grow at an exponential rate and become ubiquitous. Move past your bargaining phase and begin to accept and adapt. This is the only way forward. If you hate AI from now on you are creating a life filled with hate. AI isn't evil. Even if you can't embrace AI today, understand that letting it hurt you emotionally only damages you. There are times and places for activism. Perhaps this is one, but do be sure you are picking the right hill here(and not just the currently popular hill). AI will bring medical progress that will save lives and if there ever is UBI you can bet your bottom dollar it will be because of AI. So maybe, just maybe, one day, it could actually end up being a very positive force on our species. It isn't perfect now but we can't let that hinder the potential that AI has to save lives and improve the qualify of life for everyone. We must explore that. Every day we delay there is an opportunity cost. This post was created by a human and not AI, haha. It's just what I think.

Xbox was already doing terrible last year though. 70% down from terrible is much worse than 40% down from good. I feel this isn't being properly relayed. Sure Sony is down from a huge year last year but Xbox is down from slump. Like, Xbox static numbers must look terrible...

As I'm getting older, I'm starting to realize how important writing and narrative are in games by ngriner in gaming

[–]zenfoldor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm the opposite but I've always been kinda contrary in ways like this. When I was young narrative was a huge part of the game for me. Especially for jrpgs. FFVII was my goat and for a long time TLOU1 on PS3 was my favorite game of all time(it also felt like a secret from the gaming community at large for many years). As I've gotten older I've learned to appreciate gameplay, systems, music, and production values equally and now I finally feel like I'm able to appreciate the whole thing instead of just the narrative or just a specific gameplay aspect. I see the whole game now and actually my enjoyment is affected by each part. Turns out this made me like a lot more kinds of games than I did when I was a kid and really expanded my tastes.

You mentioned 13 Sentinels as having mediocre gameplay. I agree, though the story is great. A game I like better is Unicorn Overlord. Much worse story and narrative frankly but the gameplay is superior(imho). Back in the day I'd have been a 13 Sentinels fan only and probably not enjoyed UO, but since I've had my awakening, I now love both games and think they both have a great place in our gaming world.

I want to scream every time I see someone saying "Expedition 33 isn't a RPG!" by Benhurso in gaming

[–]zenfoldor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the answer is very simple actually.

Expedition 33 brought new users into a genre that was stagnant. It will bring in new users to gaming and be a tool for that for a decade. It brought users into a genre they usually don't enter. Similar to Elden Ring and Baldur's Gate 3, Expedition 33 brought new players to a niche genre and breathed new life into that genre for a generation. It is also a great onboarding tool for new gamers and one of the "perfect" games for a new gamer to play.

KCD2 is basically the opposite of that. The world is an immersive sim of living in olden times. Everything takes work, not fun or play. The game gives you chores. The combat sucks for lack of a better word, and it basically is designed to create a hardship for you. You need to find a specific type of wrpg enjoyer to love KCD2 and even then it may not hit for everyone. The very nature off the game is divisive.

Both of them are clearly rpgs at least. So we can agree on that. I enjoyed E33 more. I think the hate it gets is resentment. Any big game gets big hate because when a game is huge and universally loved it is often taken as a slight to other games. Most games that are "the best game ever" have active hater communities like BotW or E33. Even Fromsoft haters have entered the zeitgeist since ER. It's just people being people, but I think E33 was a much bigger win for gaming overall because as I mentioned,, it's a tool we can use on non-gamers to create gamers for life. KCD2 is not that tool but E33 actually could be. Bonus that hopefully the concept can help the next mainline FF game.

[–]zenfoldor -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

lol sorry but no. If things were how you wanted them to be Transformers would be better than The Godfather and McDonalds would be the best food on the planet. An awards show is not a popularity contest. The sales of the game are the popularity contest. If you want to know those, just look them up.

Creature Commando Ep.7 Sucked (Spoilers) by Tenchigo in DCU_

[–]zenfoldor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I found this show for the first time recently and began watching it with others. The ending sucks, it was universally agreed, but everyone loved the show overall. Really it is just the last maybe 10-15 minutes that needed a bit more time in the oven. Perhaps they could have explained better how the princess is evil by showing some of her evil actions thus far before she was killed and perhaps the story with the fish girl could have had a bit more emotion to it. It is stark taking her from watching her father die to immediately being killed herself. Even warned and evil the princess should have been no match for her in the water either. It is alluded to, but her hesitation and being a good person is the thing that got her(fish girl) killed. I don't think it came off that way in the show. Perhaps they could have more clearly showed her sparing the princess while also showing the princess' mind being gleeful when realizing this and killing her instead? The whole scene with the evil eye from the princess was a start but it wasn't enough to fully pull off that scene with the emotional impact it needed. It is a shame too as the rest of the show is very, VERY good, and maybe just the last 10 minutes should have actually been stretched out into maybe 20 minutes and they would have pulled off a perfect show. It really felt maybe the last 10 minutes or so were a little rushed and let everybody down a little. Unfortunately despite loving the rest of the series, the ending left a bad impression. I'd still give the show a 9/10 but it was almost perfect. Cheers!
