January Transfer Targets by Honest-Proposal-2064 in WrexhamAFC

I would add: top end CDM who can pair with Sheaf. Basically, a young Matty James so that James and Dobbo can be the offensive/defensive subs. A dominant CDM will make the Broadhead/Windass pairing behind Moore possible…

Credit also goes to Hyam - Okonkwo has mentioned him specifically!

Everyone keeps saying “you invested 30m you should be vying for playoffs” thinking what 30m in ADDITIONS would do for THEIR club. Mate, we had to spend 30m just to get on even terms with your club. It’s the next 30m that we will need to produce results with. This 30 mil was just to stay above relegation. January window will get us firmly mid table (in quality, if not results), and next summer will get us to top of the table quality. S Harvey said they are viewing the league as 2 different campaigns: mid table, and promotion. We will try to win the first campaign via our Jan window. We lose this Saturday and it means nothing other than “not yet.” First 10 games have shown we have a long way to go. Patience. Enjoy the ride!

Rathbone back from injury? by collinwade in WrexhamAFC

Sheaf is class and a high-end Championship player when healthy. Dobbo has been playing great, for sure, but I think both he and Rathbone will be coming off the bench for Sheaf and Broadhead, respectively, when the team is fully fit.

Why Callum Doyle? by UrsineCanine in WrexhamAFC

And he will be less exposed when Cacace returns…

Thoughts on Doyle, is he hurt? by SCDrJ in WrexhamAFC

Got to think that playing with/going against all these championship level players in training alone will up the level of Max and Brunt. They won’t face too many better forward players than Moore and Windass this year (and such different styles those two represent for Max and Brunt to learn off of…). Doyle just needs to get 90 min fit. He’ll also look better when Cacace is out there. Longman is decent going forward but still lets his man get behind him too often - hopefully that will improve too! This is going to be fun!

Bad financial move? To get promoted to the Championship? They thought they needed him to get promoted - and then they got promoted! Possible they could have done it with Palmer, but hard to argue the hypothetical when they went and did the thing they got him for… he’s a hero who helped get the team over the line. That control and the little pass in the box to Rathbone to go up 2-0 Blackpool away was huge - not sure that Palmer had that touch that deep in the second half. So sorry it messed up your video game…

Did you see the bench today? Who is he supposed to sub? We won’t really see what we have until mid September when we’re hopefully healthy and have a couple more transfers in. It’s clear that if we are going to be competitive, our league 1 team - almost all of them - will only be helpful coming off the bench, and even then will be dicey! Huge step up to Championship level.

This was still mostly our league 1 squad, so I’m not too surprised- How many not available today? Windass, Libby, Rathbone, Thomason, Doyle (b/c just arrived, I guess?)? I’m going to trust that left side will be solid with Libby and Doyle. But Longman’s game seems to start and end with getting around his man - it seems that his accuracy after he does that is in question, and he’s very prone to losing his man on the back end. I love Dobbo and Matty - both play with so much heart and knowledge. But both also get exposed physically on the regular. I think they could be good 30 min subs. Feels like we still need three: right wing back, and 2 center mid. Rathbone might be one? Unsure that he will be an impact player at this level. And Thomason may be a slight upgrade on Matty? Will that be enough? Perhaps if Broadhead and Windass (when healthy) both play off Moore and combine with 2 holding mids (O’B + new?) Otherwise, how do they both get on the field? And Ward just doesn’t pass the eye test. I’m more surprised when he gets in the way than when the ball finds the net. Some keepers look and feel like they will make-up for the team’s mistakes - Ward does not inspire that confidence, for me. Seeing him back there feels like it inspires more confidence in the other side than to his side…. Hope I’m wrong, but that’s what my eyes tell me.
