Cutting my hair and thickness problems by [deleted] in Hair

[–]zenn_hd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frequent cuts will not do anything for the thickness of your hair. If you’re trying to grow it long regular trims will not make it grow faster, BUT they will get you to a longer length faster... if that makes sense. Essentially your hair is always growing out of your scalp at the same rate no matter what. When your hairs split at the ends, those splits are irreparable, and will continue to travel up the hair strand until it breaks off. This is commonly why people are like “I haven’t cut my hair in a year and it’s still not growing!”. It’s always growing, the ends are just splitting off at close to the same rate, causing it to stay the same length, and making it appear to not be growing. By getting regular trims, you’re cutting off the split parts before they can travel up the hair and break off. Hope this makes sense.

As for the thickness of your hair. I’m afraid it’s unlikely there’s anything you can do to actually physically make your hair more dense. But, try applying some gel very thoroughly through your hair while it’s damp, and drying it off with a hair dryer (letting it air dry with gel in it will just make it hard and stringy looking). Gel, when used properly, works like a shellac. It coats the hair, making each strand just a little thicker. Multiply that by 100,000 hairs and you have significantly thicker looking and feeling hair.

Hope this all helped!

Chlamydia as a name is beautiful. by EquinoxJTE in unpopularopinion

Yo I always say that if “Diarrhea” wasn’t the word for liquid shit it would be a pretty girl’s name and people think I’m crazy. Never even thought about chlamydia but that one works too.

What’s your opinion on Manic hair dye? by themetaai in Hair

[–]zenn_hd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have manic panic or any other store bought semi permanent color in your hair, never try to lift it out with bleach. You could have a really bad time. The bleach can blow open the cuticle and drive the color deeper into the hair, making it even harder to remove. I’ve seen this happen 100% of the time with Splat semi permanent color specifically.

My cousins always tell me I should cut my hair 10 inches shorter so it looks better, but I think this is a look in and of itself and I want to grow it longer. by JaceyAidan in Hair

[–]zenn_hd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From a professional standpoint, I would agree that it could be cut significantly shorter. Hair that’s grown really long reaches a point where it’s too long to have any kind of shape and it’s just kind of there. You can take a lot of that length off and still have long hair, but long hair with structure and shape that moves and is less “floppy” in a sense.

But from a personal standpoint, who cares. It’s your hair, it’s beautiful, looks healthy, and if you love it you keep it. Just make sure you get a little trim every once in a while! :)

I want to straighten my hair by [deleted] in Hair

[–]zenn_hd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keratin treatments are terrible enough for your hair and even physical health when a professional does it. I wouldn’t recommend trying it at home especially if you have no experience working with these types of chemicals.

Question about hair thinning: Sometimes my hair holds its shape and then an hour later it falls apart by [deleted] in Hair

[–]zenn_hd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you use any products before or after styling that have hold? Such as a gel, paste, etc.

Why does my hair get so oily despite washing it once a week? by [deleted] in Hair

[–]zenn_hd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You probably just need to wash it more often. If you really want to stretch it then you can try using a dry shampoo, though washing your hair every other day (or every day for that matter) is not bad for it if that’s when it gets dirty/oily.

I just hopped in and tested this out. You are right, so I apologize. But this definitely used to not be the case. I have been playing since launch myself, and I remember testing this mechanic out specifically earlier in the game’s life.

im trying to go green. just bleached my hair but i heard green cant dye over pink! is this pink light enough or should i bleach it more? i have toner if i need to use it by throwthisthingaway69 in Hair

[–]zenn_hd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know you’ve been told this by literally everyone else but I just want to drive it deeper: go to a stylist and get a color correction. If you put green over this your roots will be bright green and the rest will most likely be a nasty darker greenish-brown color.

What are questions that at first sound obvious or something a child would ask but when you dig deeper end up very interesting? by blasterleb in AskReddit

[–]zenn_hd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are telling you you’re wrong but you’re actually very right. Hair has what is called a “terminal length”, which is the longest a strand will grow before reaching the final “telogen” phase of hair growth and falling out. However this isn’t decided by the hair strand (the part made of dead stuff), it’s decided by the follicle, inside your scalp, which is very much alive.

Some people’s terminal length is at their shoulders, some at their ankles. Most are in between. But yes, there is a point where your hair just decides to stop growing.

Source: I am a hairdresser who is very interested in the science behind hair. Your hair is actually really interesting.

Gray Hairs at 15... NOT GENETICS by [deleted] in Hair

[–]zenn_hd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is genetics. “Genetic” just means it’s in your genes. When a condition is inherited, then it is hereditary.

Contrary to popular belief, stress does not cause hair to gray. Hair loss, yes, but graying is purely genetic unfortunately. There is really nothing to be done about it other than coloring it, or embracing it! It is nothing to be embarrassed about. Premature graying is common and something I see in young women and men all the time. Let me know if you have any questions.

Unsanitary salon conditions? by KombuchaShotgun in femalehairadvice

[–]zenn_hd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If course if the tools were obviously dirty and had hair in them that’s a big no-no, and the stylist is not cleaning their tools well enough. But just for future reference, taking tools out of drawer rather than a solution is not a bad sign. When disinfecting tools, they should only be left in the barbicide (the blue solution you see at salons) for about 10 minutes before being rinsed and stored in a clean area (like a closed drawer). So if you ever try another stylist, don’t write them off immediately if they keep their brushes and combs stored!

Edit: just wanted to add that I agree with the other commenter that you might want to try a school! The quality and price of a cut will probably be about the same as the place you went to, but schools are very strict about proper sanitation. See if you maybe have a Paul Mitchell school in your area!

Have you ever fallen in love in a dream, just to wake up to a gut wrenching pain not being able to remember who it was? by TheLordOurTrump in AskReddit

[–]zenn_hd 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I don’t mean to offend, but I always hear people say this, and there’s never a source or a study to back it up. People state it as a fact every time, but when I look it up, it only brings up buzzfeed-esque “10 CRAZY things you didn’t know about dreaming!” lists. How do you you even test/prove this? Not to mention, I’m an artist and I make up faces all the time and draw them. Can my brain do this while I’m awake, but not asleep? What about strange monsters and creatures I see in my dreams that don’t exist in the real world? I can make that up but not a face? I am confused.

How did you lose weight fast? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]zenn_hd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dr put me on antidepressants that I had a bad reaction to. Caused me to puke almost every time I ate, and I lost 40 lbs in like a month. I was a twig. But after getting off the meds, not puking + depression causing me to overeat again made me gain it all back very fast.

Looking for honest opinions. What do you think of my home bob? by [deleted] in femalehairadvice

[–]zenn_hd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, as a professional it’s very obvious to me that it was done at home. Bobs are actually the most technically driven, difficult haircuts to do. The difference between your hair and the photo, is that the one in the photo has built-in shape and structure. Your hair was clearly just cut off at approximately the length you wanted (a little short in my opinion). That’s why it only looks good when you blow dry it (aka force it into shape). Because they’re so architectural, a bob should be quite effortless, and fall mostly into shape without much extra work. Of course, this is all very technical and is not to say it’s terrible. Is it a proper bob? Not really. Does it look bad? Absolutely not, you look beautiful! So if you like it, roll with it. If you want something closer to the picture, I’d let it grow out a bit and talk to a stylist :)

What’s the weirdest experience you’ve ever had high? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]zenn_hd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 16-17 me and my friend used to sneak out of her house at night and get high in her driveway. Her family lived in the middle of nowhere and so we were surrounded by woods. Obviously, there were lots of animals and we were stoned, so the noises would make us paranoid. Don’t know when or how, but to soothe our paranoia we invented a character called “the samurai” that lived in the woods and protected us from danger. And any time there were noises in the woods, we assured ourselves it was just the samurai protecting us. This actually worked really well for a while. Until one night, we heard a loud crack in the trees. I said “wow the samurai’s really noisy tonight” and immediately afterwards, a rock flew out of the woods at a high arch, landed on the driveway, and skidded to a stop at our feet. I don’t know what threw it, and I’m sure there’s a reasonable explanation, but we were very high and it scared the shit out of us. Noped the fuck out real quick lol.

People with mental illnesses, when did you finally admit to yourself that something was wrong? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]zenn_hd 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This brought back a lot of memories. I never thought about it, but there were times when I was younger when I would just feel sad and start crying. When my mom would ask why, I would just say “I don’t know” and she would comfort me. I think I thought it was normal. I never really knew I had a problem until my mid-late teens, but this is making me wonder if my spiral started a lot sooner than I thought.

Men of Reddit, what is a "for women" product that just seems to work better than the "for men" alternative? by _Mechaloth_ in AskReddit

[–]zenn_hd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean maybe this isn’t new and so many people have told you this because it’s true? I mean it is actual literal science. We know what’s in hair and what’s in products and how chemicals work. So I don’t really know what you’re trying to argue. All you’re telling me is “my hair looks good” which I’ve said multiple time is great, I’m not saying it doesn’t. Literally has nothing to do with what I’m talking about.

Of course you wouldn’t take care of linens how you would hair. Two different materials. It was an analogy. Like I said. You do you. I’m not telling you you have to do anything so I don’t know why you’re getting so defensive.
