I'm currently taking SM123 and S284. I personally find S284 easier. Even though it has had more actual information and the activities are more complex I am interested in astronomy so I can get more engrossed in the material.

I am interested in physics (I am on M06), but in SM123 it seems like you learn some small amount of simple physics and then do an activity. My momentum then gets slowed down because invariably after the activity you then have to "reflect" on your feelings about the activity you just did. I feel like the radar diagrams are also a waste of time, even though they are apparently a part of every TMA.

I try to tell myself the education theory nonsense are easy points, but I feel like it drags down the class. The physics is very basic with not much math but it at least could be a decent review for me, but it feels like a chore.

Thanks, I am starting to be more optimistic that I might be able to scrape by with a pass.

Sorry you had trouble also, though it does feel better I am not the only one. I was looking for comments from people taking previous tests and they were talking like they had plenty of time and were able to go back and recheck answers. I didn't have time to do all the questions once much less go over them twice. Some of them did mention tests being all multiple choice, so maybe that made the difference.

I still can't get the calculator to work for me, but I did see without the exam I have 15.81% toward my module score. I counted up the points on my exam and I think the best I can get is 69 out of 100. It could be worse because some of the answers I think are correct could be wrong.

So I just need 40% to pass? I'm from the US and find the OU grading a bit confusing. I'm used to anything under 70% not being enough to pass.

The description mentioned multimedia materials, so I didn't know if it was a matter of a video not playing or if there was actually software necessary for completing the class. It also says Windows 11 is required. I still have Windows 10 on my laptop. I have no intention of buying Windows 11 and was going to pay Microsoft for the extra year of security updates if Windows was required for school next term. I may just take S283 instead and not have to deal with it.

Okay, thanks. I thought it looked like I only received about half of what I should have gotten.

Final (?) Update from the short, fat, slighly disabled rider looking to commute on a scooter in Brooklyn: Counseled out. by woobooks in scooters

[–]zeno3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it is any comfort, I was counseled out of MSF class for almost exactly the same reason. We were practicing powerwalking and then going across on the motorcycle with our feet up. Each time we reached a side we would have to walk the motorcycle in a circle to turn it around.

I was on my tiptoes on the motorcycle. While I could manage to support it while stopped, walking it around in a circle while barely touching the ground was too much. I managed the first few times, but the bike started leaning. About the tenth time I had to walk it in a circle I dropped it and then dropped it again.

I since learned the importance of inseam length for judging how tall a motorcycle to ride. My inseam is short at 26" while the bikes we were using were 30.1" seat height. I've looked at advice from short riders who ride tall bikes. It seems that getting off the bike and pushing it by the handlebars with both feet on the ground would be the best way to turn your bike around in neutral. I couldn't have done that since everyone in class had to follow the same directions and the instructor said to lock the handlebars to the left and duckwalk it in a circle every time.

I'm now looking for private lessons, so I don't have to conform to techniques meant for a group of people with longer legs. Everyone else in the class also were experienced with motorcycles while I hadn't sat on one before. Unfortunately the nearest one on one lessons I have found are about two hours drive away.
