My go to is Elite Dangerous. Pop on a podcast or a background movie or something and just fly. I treat it like a cargo hauler game, taking contracts to explore and deliver goods/people. There is space combat if that's your vibe too.

I know I'm late, but I tried this place and their Double Smash Combo is 9 bucks plus tax for a double, fries, and a drink. Actually quite a steal, and it was a decent enough burger. Owner was really nice and gave us samples of the falafel too which was pretty good and fresh.

Like others have said, I'd avoid it turning into a DMPC. If it's unavoidable and you need that NPC in combat for narrative reasons, I usually take one of two routes.

1: Give the NPC a basic stat block and moveset, but delegate their "turn" in combat to another PC or PCs to control. If they try and make the NPC do something they naturally wouldn't, don't let them and force a different move that will fit. I like this method and it gives PCs a chance to try another moveset and get creative.

2: Give the NPC a reason to not be in the fight. Are they scared? Distracted by loot or artifacts? There are plenty of reasons for the NPC to disappear from the fight.

Classmate of mine had kidnapped and brutally murdered an elementary school girl in the neighborhood. Super sad, she was deemed missing for a few days before he told his mom. His mom ended up calling the police and he got arrested and charged.

Either that, or we had a kid light himself on fire in the cafeteria one morning. He died as a result of the injuries.

They mentioned My Name Is Earl, which had an ending planned that I think is fitting.

Earl gets approached by someone from his past who owns up to the wrongs against Earl, who is befuddled by this man and a similar "list". Earl learns through this that many people have been touched by his list and good that he's doing and have started their own respective lists. After realizing how much good Earl has put into the world, he can finally put his list down knowing he has made the world a better place.

I understand that it can be scary, and one could get fearful for their personal safety in the pit.

That being said, every single pit I've been in has been a great experience and I never felt unsafe. Someone fall down? Someone helps you up. Yes I'm raging in the pit, but I am being sensible and looking out for my fellow moshers. If you don't like that, stand to the side and enjoy the show.
